How essential are new boots?

How important is it to buy new 2-300 dollar pair of boots opposed to purchasing a used pair at the shop to save a little money so I'll be able to afford more than ramen for the next few weeks? Obviously it's better to buy new... That's not what I'm asking. Also what should I look for when buying used boots if it comes down to it? & when is it best to have stiff boots vs medium flex vs full flex? More than likely I'll just look for boots online cause my local ski shop usually only has a couple brands to choose from. Thanks in advance
Edit: if you have any boot recommendations that won't break the bank, link me

A good pair should last you a looong time if you take care of them. If your starving for food...perhaps new boots shouldn't be on your list of priorities right now

How important is it for you to be able to ski for a while day without your foot feeling like its in a bear trap?
The better your boots for the more you will like skiing.

....boots make all the difference in the entire world....one of the few things in the ski industry where money=comfort. the boots i have now if i would have paid retail for everything would prob be around 1600......but i paid no where near that. it comes out to about 2.50 dollars a day for the 800 days I expect to get out of the boot. have some one with knowledge give you advice on a boot, to get for your foot size. I would say custom foot beds are an essential for anyone, and you will feel much more solid. The biggest thing to make sure is that a ski boot is as snug as it can be without cutting off circulation or deforming the shell. Like your shin can't bang around in the upper cuff. You can't lift up your heel, you can't slide your foot back and forth and your forefoot/toebox side to side. It is important to be snug.
