So I'm in an Autobody Repair course at school, and i just finished re-painting my explorer, and i decided to redo the graphics on some old skis, just to see how well it would work out, and they actually came out sweet. This is how i did it
-I sanded the Top sheet Down with 80 grit, on a D.A.
-Sand just far enough o wear the clear coat is gone and the actual graphics are starting to come up. Then i moved up to 180 grit and re- sanded all the sand scratches out
-Then I shot a layer of white primer, and wet sanded with 320, and then shot it again, and wet sanded once more, this relieveing all the sand scratches and divots.
-Then I masked off some small flames, and then shot the whole ski this maroon/purple color(it was just paint i had lying around from another kids car)
-Then shot the flames in a fade from yellow, to orange, to red
_I outlined the flames with a white stripe to give it a defined line
-then i shot it with clear, and wet sanded then buffed em out. They came out sweet.
Its actually a pretty fun process, and is quite easy if the equipment is available
