Winter Storm Kayla

Any of you absolutely stoked for this storm? I know the west probably got hit already but the Midwest is finally going to get real snow. Actual crystallized precipitation is going to accumulate on the ground!

Skipping school on Wednesday and heading to Granite. What are your plans?

So pumped, finally some good powder

Its just so fucking annoying how the media plays up snow storms for days in advance. My local news station has had five minute stories every day about this "Major winter storm". Just makes the general public see snow as a terrible thing even more.

It rained all day yesterday in most of wisco-probably not as much as you guys out there have been getting though..

They've named storms with less than 6 inches of snow. Wisconsin hasn't had a 12" storm in years. But naming snowstorms is lame no matter how big they are.

TWC are the one's who started that. They say it is easier to track it that way and easier to refer to the storm as a name. It confuses me this bothers people so much? Can some one explain? It seems people hate change, even something so irrelevant as this...

Maybe the far northern areas but most of the state has been pretty dry for a couple years.

If it doesn't have a defined Eye, it doesn't have a name. A storm needs to have at least one anatomical feature, otherwise, it's just goofy shit that the weather channel is trying to push in our face.

Well, as usual, it will warm up just enough for there to be rain in SE WI for the duration of the storm... then it will be 9° two days later. I hate this winter.

yeah whole different world over there. Crazy how much NY varies from NYC to the Catskills to ADKs to Tug Hill to Western NY.

Well, for one, the National Weather service only names a storm when it has a defined feature such as an eye or circular motion. The Weather Channel names these storms for fear mongering purposes only. Just look at the headlines: "Kayla: 41 inches of snow, travel nearly impossible," when the "41 inches" came from 10,000 feet up in the rockies. Also, I wonder how much money The Weather Channel has cost the US by causing all of this fear and causing people to cancel appointments, school, not go to work, etc... When the highest snow totals in WI were only 6.5 in.

I always get a kick out of the headlines on The Weather Channel. Every media sources is about fear mongering. That is how they sell ads. People buy into the hype but that is because they are dumb. Anyone can look at the data themselves and interrupt it. For the sake of referring to winter storms to help track them makes sense to me. I know that is not popular opinion but who cares? Next year if you wanted to refer to Winter Storm Jonas instead of trying to refer to when it happened makes me sense to me.
