FKS/Pivot help

Hey guys, this is gonna sound like a real noob question here: So I have a pair of Pivots that are a couple years old, thing is the turntable is VERY stiff/sticky/hard to move around as opposed to a new pair I was looking at in the shop. They don't really pivot at all by hand and I had 5 separate binding pull outs between my pair of skis (2 on 1 one ski, 3 on the other).

To be honest I don't even remember ejecting in the past 2 months; I'm not a super aggressive skier (mostly just straight air jumps and barely hit rails) so I don't crash hard enough that would warrant an eject but any time I did, they just pulled out. After the first incident I had them remounted, after the second i had them heli coiled and they still pulled out. Now this could completely be due to the wood being rotten, which i'm hoping since I wouldn't have to buy new bindings but after checking out new bindings in the shop there is a distinct difference between the pivoting mechanisms between mine and the new ones.

I'm getting new skis 100%, but i'm extremely hesitant to mount those bindings on new skis incase it's a binding malfunction but buying an entire set of bindings is expensive so i'm kind of stuck.

help!

The screws are in perfect condition, they have some wood residue left on them but they were replaced prior to being mounted. One of the screws has an unwound by of helicoil from when it pulled out.

What pivots do you have? If you have P12s they never had the turntable heel, which is what I'm guessing you're seeing in stores now. Turntable heels will legit spin completely backwards with little pressure, if your P12s do that you'll need to throw them in the garbage because they're not built to do that.

It could be grease has gone bad
Could be you broke the springs
It could be you have P12s which don't have turntable heels

I'm not an idiot lmao, they are pivot 14's. I can get them to move backwards but they don't spin, feels like there is no grease at all. I doubt the springs would cause them to not move. If I want them to spin I literally have to force them around with my hand, they don't rotate easily like new pivots/fks do.

If anything they usually get loose as a goose when they get older.
You may have bent/warped the ring-plate that the threaded arms mount to. If that's the case you'll probably need new base plates, which fortunately you can buy now, although they are somewhat expensive.
You should be able to see if this is the case just by examining them closely from the side.
They should also have a bunch of white lithium grease in there.

Interesting, I can get new base plates for around $70, now the funny thing is BOTH bindings are pretty much the same as far as the looseness (is that a word) goes

After using my pivots a lot in the dirt, they got really sticky. I made a video a while back about greasing them. Call me out, roast me, make fun of my sucky video skills, do whatever you want, but it fixed the problem for me.

Haha I saw it, I watched it on mute so no criticism there. What grease did you use ? I ended up just buying new bindings but if I can get those nice and lubed up I'll have a perfectly good working pair of pivots for sale

you are fine man. I have some old as p18s that barely rotate and its just because ther grease has worn off. I asked my shop a while back if I should re-grease them and that day the rossi rep was there and told me that when you buy a pair of bindings, they come with all the grease they will need for the lifespan of the binding, so do not grease it. they are fine and work fine. If you fall, they will rotate and they will work. What you are describing is what has happened to every single pair of pivots/fks I have ever owned. I haven't had a problem.

For your pullouts, it definitely sounds like the core is rotted not question, or the ski is low quality. What ski is it?

Cool I'll let them be. They were jskis whipits. It's just odd that both cores rotted at the same time, usually wouldn't it be one or the others ?

Did they desig the p12 differently than the fks120? Because those spin just like the 14/18 din bindings...?

He's talking about the px12s or whatever. The pivot 12s and fks 12s have a pivoting heel

If the shop didn't glue when mounting, they could easily rot out at the same time
