TheBigAppleYoga good. But I have no patience for it.
Crispy.I picked it up this summer and it's a love hate relationship. Hot/normal doesn't matter, but I'd recommend going to one that's "chill" or more stretch orientated rather than a hard workout one.
GORILLAWALLACEI like the idea of stretching, but I hate the feeling.
shotvetmaybe start with a phone app to figure out what is right for you before spending a bunch of money on a membership somewhere. I use the Daily Yoga app and there are a lot of free sessions that target different areas
SammyDubzEh that's not a problem. My gym membership includes it.

brotoi tried a free yoga membership with my buddies last summer for a week. went to a couple hot classes. they were awesome, tbh. i always came out feeling super loose and energized (and sweatier than a pack mule). and the butts are always nice
once the week trial was up i continued doing yoga for a couple months with a friend who was taking classes to become an instructor. honestly, i wish i stuck with it, but the friend moved away. there was a very noticeable improvement not only in my flexibility, but also in balance, core strength, and even mental discipline. i haven't done any yoga in months but i'm still more flexible than before i tried. it was also a great way to alleviate stress and just slow things down for an hour or so and push aside all of the distractions of life.
all in all, might sound pretty feminine but yoga is tite
Crispy.Yoga doesn't feel like your traditional stretch. It's more gradual and incorporated into different balancing and strength exercises.
ianrich511I just started doing more yoga for the exact same reason. My only tip is dont do this thing called flow yoga. Its like a move for every breath, I finished and was pretty pissed off and sweaty. Definitely not what I was expecting. The laying on the floor stretching chill yoga is where its at.

louie.miragsI would recommend going to a few classes actually so the teacher can correct your form. Without proper form you will not get the full benefits and might as well not be doing it.
For me, I haven't done it in a few months because I have so much going on, but it is so relaxing. And you will be surprised how good of a workout it is. You will sweat
SammyDubzYea thats what I plan on doing. Like I said my gym membership includes the classes, so I have pretty much free reign of what I can try. Do/did you do hot or normal?
louie.miragsNormal, my girlfriend is the teacher actually. I am not sure about hot. There is no place near me. I will say though after a few classes and you get comfortable there, try eating a light edible before the class. Now that is relaxing

SammyDubzDo they really push the whole mental aspect of it or do they let you decide yourself if you want to buy into the whole zen thing or whatever

louie.miragsI meant to answer this and missed it. Like said it depends on the class. In my experience, no. There are different types of yoga classes where they emphasize the mental part of it.
brotoalso, really the mental side is a positive imo. it really helps with putting mind over matter, especially when your muscles are absolutely on fire and you have to just forget about the pain because the instructor hasn't told you to let go of the pose yet. in my experience, it definitely improved my mental "toughness"
TheBigAppleI just downloaded "daily yoga" onto my ipad and s6, I have yet to use it and apparently I already missed a work out according to the notification. I set it at 8:00 am for when I wake up.
Anyways it has a video for each section and there are hundreds of lessons.
I'm going to start with the two week 10 lesson beginner program that's like 10-20 minutes a day.
Add that to my usual gym and fitness regime to hopefully gain some flexibility because I have none at all.
SammyDubzgood looks. gonna go try a class tomorrow.
Crispy. If this works for you then awesome! But I highly recommend going to an actual gym and doing it. So much better, for me atleast.
SammyDubzWent to a very basic hot yoga class. Enjoyed it, but much too warm for me. I'm a cold weather person through and through so it was a struggle. Gonna try a normal class this week I think.
