Breaking_RadThere is literally NO money. She may transcend women's freeskiing and create something new, but there is no current "pro" making shit. They scrap and claw for free gear and a travel budget. If they are lucky the government in the country they ski for (Norway, UK, etc) helps w/ a decent stipend.

The other downer on Kelly is she has the personality of a wet newspaper. I know she can't speak English, but she ain't Shaun White, Jamie Anderson or even Chloe Kim. She's 13 and that can change, but right now she's a ski-bot and hopefully with a few wins under her belt she can turn into something a little more.

Breaking_RadNo, I'm not speculating. Kelly needs to have a lot more appeal outside of skiing to actually bring in some decent coin. I mean look at the biggest male park skiers of the last decade - Simon Dumont, Tanner Hall, Wally. Some of these guys are actually doing pretty good, but they have a lot of appeal to a bunch of other park skiers. Throw the name Simon Dumont to some rando on the street and he/she has no idea who you are talking about.

Go through the Top 10 women skiers right now not named Kelly - Tiril, Emma, Devin Logan, Keri Herman, Kim Lamarre, Kaya Turski, Maggie Voisin, Yuki, Lisa Zimmerman, Katie Summerhayes, etc. None of these girls are breaking the bank. More just struggling to get to the next contest.

"Ton of fucking money?" - No, again there is no real money in skiing and there is certainly no money in women's skiing unless your name is Lindsey Vonn. If Kelly approaches that level and park skiing becomes a passion of the mainstream and the Europeans then Kelly may bank crazy coin.

Kelly is probably going to land some endorsements and she'll do alright because she is about to just own everybody's ass for the next 5 years, but I think she's (and her family) are more praying for the scenario you have outlined.

MinggI'm not saying they are... But when I was competing internationally at the age of 11, every single parent was more into it than the athletes themselves. Granted, it was a different sport and maybe shit has changed but yeah. The amount of pressure that girl is under is unreal.

CyanicenineThis is what I wonder. The amount of time they must have spent training on the slope for her and Henry to be as good as they are at their ages, and how good they were at even younger ages is staggering to think about.

When the Chinese have Olympics training "concentration" style camps for children, we call it child abuse. But when parents force that sort of intensive training onto their own children, that's where things start to get fuzzy.

And don't tell me Kelly and Henry wanted to get up every single day and ski. They've been throwing down awesome tricks since before they could string together a coherent sentence, let alone contemplate or articulate what they want out of life. By the time they possibly could, too much is already invested.

It's really easy to look at them and be envious of their skills and overlook how much of their normal childhood has probably been sacrificed. I watched a documentary about some guy who wanted to prove women could be good at chess, so he drilled his daughter in chess every day since early childhood, and lo she became a grandmaster. On the one hand that's an awesome accomplishment but on the other hand it's sort of frightening the way these children were molded to the whims of their parents.
