Im not bashing gus. I am bashing the fact that every event he is in the announcers find it necissary to mention that he is gay. Frankly im just tired of it and i hate how the media is trying to push it sooooo hard.

i get that i am also the problem by posting a thread about gus but this zhit is lammme

to be honest I don't think anyone really cared he was gay to begin with. It's not like my opinion changed of him. I gained a little bit more respect for him for coming out because that would be hard as fuck. But like hes not in my top three because he's gay, he's in my top three because he fucking slays.

u know the media is trying to milk it when the first senctence in his bio on the x games site is "In an October ESPN The Magazine story, X Games staple Gus Kenworthy announced publicly that he was gay. He also has said that keeping closeted may have led to struggles at XG". 2 far lol

I think that coming out as a professional athlete of any sport is just still pretty rare these days, so he's getting a lot of coverage for it. At least its positive and not homophobic.

It'll keep happening until our society is actually gender/sexuality inclusive.

Here's why I don't agree with this...he is absolutely killing it.

Call it the Kournikova Syndrome. In Tennis Anna Kournikova never did shit. Didn't win anything, but got popular on simply being hot (not that there is anything wrong with that).

Gus certainly has a "hotness" factor with chicks (and, I'm assuming, gay dudes), but God Damn if that son-of-a-bitch can't throw down. Kournikova never won shit. Bottom line - Gus is pimping the media. Gay (media darling), good looking and a bad ass skier. You can't fault a dude for that.


That said, the Puppy bullshit was retarded. That was straight up old school Goepper.

Anyone watch the TSN coverage? Last year they showed all runs from qualifiers and finals, but this year they only showed 3 gus runs (replayed 20x), 2 runs from rolland, and one from wise where he crashed. Never even showed a single run from any of the other competitors. Literally only 5 runs were showed out of the whole event. If they cut qualifiers it would make sense to have more time for finals but this is mad. They did do a 30 minute mini documentary on gus and his puppies though...

I dont see how they can even hold these events and cover them so poorly. Snapchat does a better job than espn/tsn right now.

Dude lays it down in all three disciplines all the while hiding that fact that he is gay and having to hear the word gay being used as a derogatory term in the sport he competes in. I mean how do you do all that and still stay sane....

Now that he's out and can be happy in himself he's going to be so much more dangerous.

This year alone (after being out for nine months with a broken femur and blown meniscus) he's defended his Slopestyle title at Dew, Won pipe at Mammoth, Gotten 2nd in pipe at Xgames which tbh should have been gold (first ever medal)....and has Big Air and Slopestyle to go...

Crazy....

I hope ESPN's hero award goes to Gus Jenner this year.

Who knows. maybe with all this over-saturated sensationalizing, it may actually end some negative connotations against gays. Ya, we don't care, because on this site, are mostly straight, white, more than privileged males, living in western civilization. We're not required to care about anything that actually matters, like the fact that it is still obviously not cool to be gay in society. Otherwise these events would have less hype, and the media would allow them to go on without such sensationalization. Perhaps all we need is some gayness shoved in our face, or wherever, I'm not judging. If so, perhaps we as a people, will stop putting down alternative lifestyle choices, and putting it down freedom of expression, so shit won't blow up and all we see Is B Jenn and G Kenn on Conan.

We are in a great transitioning period, nya nya. But seriously, you wouldn't hear your parents talk about seeing someone, 'famously' coming out on Johnny Carson. Even the film MILK, came out just like 5 years too soon. MILK would have blown up if it would have came out in theaters at this time.

Be okay with people being gay. If your not cool with Gays, or if you think you have such a place, to put down whoever you want, take a fucking dick already. Metaphorically, or literally, I don't care. And I know you don't care, about any of this, that is until something like these events come along. Face it, in your white, privileged bubble you don't have to care about anything, except how to get your hands on Armada's ZERO line, or when weed might become legal in your state.

I thought it was really forced that they made such a point to talk about his boyfriend, and were pretty much acting like he won even though he just got beat out by Rolland like 5 seconds prior. But they do typically show people's girlfriends or parents or whatever, ot just struck me as one of those predetermined storylines that X Games always does. Its hard to articulate being supportive of Gus and at the same time not supportive of the fake journalism corporate BS that the X Games always brings.

Why? The majority of the skiers i know (of) are all really chill and laid back people. There's not a single person i can think of who would have a problem with anyone being gay.

Personally I'm getting tired of the gay hype train, but props to Gus for taking the ball and running with it. I bet he's making his sponsors happy!

This coverage is annoying, It doesn't matter if hes gay, that doesn't change anything skiing related. The media needs to start covering the actual events and stop dwelling on one person's life story. We are watching the X-games to see people throw down, not for documentaries on dogs and sexual preferences.

I'm happy for Gus for coming out and being his true self, but i watch x games to watch skiing, not to see a gay pride rally. Gay or not, it doesn't affect my opinion of anybody, and it was little much at times.

I never really did, I kinda always thought he was since he always post's weird shit on social media but never was full on certain since girls always told me they think hes super hot and I assumed then he got mad poone especially after Sochi. Good for him but lets just cool it down with the media of it and pay attention to what he does best.

Give me a fucking break.....the guy came out what.....2 months ago? This the second event he's even competed in since? It's a big story in the world of action sports, of course they're going to discuss it. They fucking talked about the puppies adoption for like 2 fucking years. Let's just be thankful that now that shit is dead, and it's not every announcer throwing out the obligatory puppy anecdote. Now that was painful. You can handle it being discussed that the guy is gay for two contests, boo hoo.

I kept saying that over and over while watching the x games.

However I will say he seem way more super flamboyant while talking. Not saying it's a bad thing. Maybe I'm the only one who though that because I was watching the x games by myself :(
