Newschoolers' Comp News/Write-Ups

1st. Anyone can write a review if they want... It's not just Twig(or red/orange/purple names) who is allowed to. The news section is open to every member.

2nd. You can get a recap anywhere with no bias. I personally like what he does. He says what a lot of us are thinking and a lot of people agree with what he is saying/doing.

3rd. Be the change you want to see. Cliche, but whatever. If you want more of those articles, write them.

2. I also get this, but NS is where I come for everything skiing. I don't really plan on going to ESPN or the X Games website for results. I realize that he voices the thoughts of a lot, but imo, the articles come off as unneeded negativity. Everyone always complains about how negative ski culture is, and articles like those just further said negativity.

I kind of agree with OP..I'd much rather see a recap of the competition without the bashing or comments of how boring and stale the current comp scene is.

That being said..X games is a lot different than how it used to be and quite frankly im pretty pissed off about how theyre going about everything. Especially the whole no qualifiers. Wtf is that shit? Pisses me off. Idk where i stand on this shit

I also somewhat agree with OP. Twig has every right to voice his opinion and distaste for comp skiing, but let's not call it news. It's editorial opinion, not fact and I'd rather see kids form their own opinions than hate something simply because Newschoolers told them that's what's cool to do.

Believe it or not, people actually use NS as a source of news and it's frustrating when that "news" is so blatantly one-sided negativity. Let's not let Newschoolers turn into YoBeat.

I don't know. I like it. He says what a lot of people are thinking and to hold that back is lame in my opinion. I can see if it was presented as the official NS recap how that would be iffy. I've said it before, but any other ski media outlet is gonna give you the highlights of what happened. I like that he takes an alternative approach and isn't super generic about it. It wasn't all negative though either. At least it wasn't as negative as the Dew Tour write up hahaha

Ah I guess I was referencing the Dew Tour article. The new pipe article is presented much better. I dig the disclaimer at the beginning. That pretty much solves my editorial vs. news gripe. Carry on.

Actually I'm at Skiers Cup in Andorra right now but Evan is right, if you want to write about this, send it. If you're good and you get the views, you've got the job. I write up comps because getting something on NS about these comps is useful in both traffic and market presence terms. I'm not going to hold back on my opinion (and I assure you guys it's an opinion shared by most of the people behind NS) because writing them any other way is mind-blowingly boring to do.

I've said this before but there are any number of places to read a generic recap and feel free to go to them if you don't like my recaps here. Enough people clearly enjoy them to keep reading them. For sure there's been some backlash, but there has always been more support than criticism. Honestly I enjoy the hate because at least people feel something about what is written rather than blandly looking over what is fundamentally quite a dull article and forgetting it. As we said recently, we aren't just bitching, we are doing something about it and redesigning Dew Tour to hopefully make things more exciting to us.

That said and much to my surprise, I actually enjoyed Women's slope today, I didn't even bitch once in the write up (I don't think).
