When are skis too short

I knew I was starting to outgrow my skis but i didnt really notice how short they actully were on my until i saw a pic of my on them. I mean they still preform great, hold at high speeds, and they are very fun to play with being that they are little bit shorter. Anyway this got me think when does a ski get "too small" do any of you ride on skis that are way short than you? Or can u ride skis to big ?

I'm 6'1" with 186's and I would really like them longer. Just feels more stable.

I'm 5' 9" and 153 pounds. My skis are in between the range of 176-180.

No, they shouldn't be shorter than your chin. You typically don't want them coming to your forehead unless they have a lot of rocker or you're a little heavier.

Honestly the way I see it is that it doesn't really matter if you are having fun with them, and that there is no single right length of ski. It really depends on what riding you are doing.

For park I ski 168 s3's (I'm 6' even 145lbs.) that at this point are just fucking noodles, its great and a shit ton of fun being able to just play around on them effortlessly. However I would not want to be caught charging gnarly big mountain lines on them, and I would never trust them in a risky couloir... that's where I grab skis that are taller than my head.

If you are looking for a one ski quiver and you do a bit of everything and not just park, something a bit longer and stiffer might help you out.

I am 5 11 I ride 165s. People say it's weird but they can't do the tricks I can. Low swing weight and lots of butter ability with a shorter ski. Harder on big jumps not impossible.

when I first started park I had 150's or something and i was 5'6. pretty crazy, I used old k2 bad seeds in the garage that had when I was little. They were super flexy and kinda fun. At the time I was into all mountain and sidecountry way more than park so I couldnt justify buying new skis. Still am more of a big mountain guy but I found some mint park skis and got them. I would say keep what you have until they are difficult to ski. They sound OK and they look the perfect length.

lol, how are your snowblades?

Honestly anything thats shorter than me feels like its not enough ski, that being said my everyday ski is a 179 pettitors (originals) and I ride 184 mantras for my touring skis so if you ride park everyday it may be different.

Not that bad ... Im 5'3" and mine are 160 cm. I wouldnt go shorter than that though ... If you're still growing you can end the season with them and change for next year.

If youre a decent skier that should be as tall as you at a minimum

I'm 6" and I have 182cm skis... They're just the perfect lenght !

Choosing ski lenght is about if you are comfortable with them...

There is a direct correlation between ski length and dick length.. So keep that in mind.

It's all preference. If you ride a shorter ski and shred it, go out there and send it!

I'm 5'10'' on 185s on a regular day, but my rock skis are 171.

I'm 5'9" and ride 171 cambered park skis. A touch short maybe, but I also have a pair of 176 al dentes which feel awful to me - too much swing weight.

around my eyes, there not too short, but next year im most likely gonna have to get a new ski, unless i stay a midget forever lol

If you are interested I might be looking to sell my 161 AR7s. Even thought they are from 2k11 I've never hit a rail with them and they have no edge delam or core shots

It's all about preference and what you feel comfortable with. I'm 5'10 and I used to use 182's but now I ride 166"s and I really like them. If nobody asks you where you got your blades you should be fine.

5'9" and ride 163s for park, my all mountain ski 179. its all preferences and based off experience level. My buddy who's 6'2" who sucks rides like 150's when he rents, it looks hilarious.

If they are around your eyes you are fine i ride mine all above my head but thats just how i like em so

Having a standard rule for how long skis should be relative to your height is nonsense. Every ski is different and the length you choose should be adjusted accordingly.

I'm 5'6" and on 181's. I rode 177's when I was 5'3". It's really personal preference, but I suggest going up a little as longer skis help a ton for stability on rails.

I prefer longer skis but it really doesn't matter bro. I'm 5' 8" and I ski 176s and I feel that it is perfect for me. My 5' 10" friend skis 155s and it looks kinda weird

I know I'm not the only one who laughs at people on tiny skis in the park. It looks really tacky when people are doing complex tricks on tiny skis.

But whatever floats your goat. Henrik is an inspiration for us though

I agree, i was looking at vid my frnd took of me and my skis look very tiny on me, it just looks wierd

The swing weight in longer skis takes half a day to get used to, then they are the best thing ever! Much more stability and easier to land clean

went up 20 cm on my new skis this year and honestly took me about 4 runs to get used to it, its way better
