Is this illegal?

I brought a gallon of water into a movie theatre and one of the workers told me to throw it away, or he’d confiscate it. Under what authority are they allowed to do this. I would of happily said okay if I could have had water from the movie theater but you have to pay a ridiculous amount for it.

I find it very concerning that companies force you to buy their water, and will even get the police involved if you bring water that isn’t theirs. Seems kind of draconian to me.

I still find this draconian, water is essential for survival and I did not have the money at the time to buy their water. Of course, I suppose I could of left the building.

Ive got a story that applies,

Back in High school 2 of my buddies and I were drunk and bored one night so we decided to go to an 18+ strip club (I was 18 at the time). Upon entering we were confronted by one of the employees telling us to buy a drink as it was their policy that all patrons must buy one drink. Being under 21 we had one option, water, which was 5 dollars for a bottle. Being the drunk high school assholes we were we pushed back at the notion of spending $5 on water and asked to speak to a manager. The manager came out and told us that we would have to spend the $5 or leave. At this point my genius friend using his best come back ability mentioned that we could go down to the gas station and buy water for less than a dollar. The manager then proceeded to tell us,
"OH YEAH!?? WELL THERE AINT NO TITTIES AT THE GAS STATION!!" and kicked us out.

Moral of the story is "there aint no movie" wherever you bought your water from so either be more sly bringing it in or pay 5 dollars for a water and refill it at the water fountain.

You can bring it in if it is sealed. Otherwise it could be vodka and they are liable. Duh. Sneak things in like the rest of the universe. Stop drinking so much water. Stop drinking water at the movies like a weirdo. Any of the above.

i know here in canada, any place that sells food legaly has to give you free water if you ask. doesnt matter if you buy anything. but usually you just sound like an asshole exercising his rights to the max.

Because when you enter a theater (or, when you buy a movie ticket) you are agreeing to exchange your money for their goods and services under the rules they establish.

If you don't like those rules, you can either take your money elsewhere, or conform to their standards.

most movie theater employees do not care as long as they don't see it. I have literally had the ticket girl say to myself, girlfriend, and girlfriends mom, "You can't bring your starbucks into the theater, but if you walk out the door, put it in your purse, and come back so I don't see it, you're fine."

So we did just that, and drank our white girl starbies while watching our movie.

Is actually not the right to refuse service if he grabbed the water and threw it out that would actually be illegal but you don't have to be in that movie theater so they do have the right to kick you out if you don't comply to there rules. Same way I want a lot of public stores don't want people with guns in them, even though the guns were legally obtained.

He gave you an option throw out your water and stay in the movie theater, or keep your water and leave. Serious note who brings a gallon of water into a movie theater how cam you can drink a gallon of water in 2 hours?

A lot of movie theatres make most of their money from concessions. Very littler actually comes from ticket sales and sometimes they even lose money there. Hence the 6$ pops and 10$ popcorns
