How are they riding switch there? Hows the swing-weight?

Recommended should be closer to -3 cm. I have my Kartel 106s at -2.5 I think.

Swing weight is pretty good I think, they ride switch fine, I don't ride switch fine, though.

Centering your mount point is a bit of straw man when it comes to actual performance difference in a ski. Somewhere along the line, skiers accepted the narrative that being dead center on the ski meant that they could somehow spin more evenly.

However, I don't ski directly over the midsole mark on my boots--and if you use shin pressure like 90% of skiers, depending on the forward lean of your boots, your body may actually line up in front of the midsole mark of your boots. This especially for skiing switch. Functionally, my body weight is near the dead middle of the ski when I'm in normal ski position.

Skiers try to square this narrative of feeling like they need to be dead center with seeing a number like -4.25 and have a mental panic. It's silly, because after a certain distance close to center, it doesn't make much of a difference. I've done plenty of spinning on skis mounted at -11cm from dead center, and after you get closer to dead center from -5cm, there isn't much of an improvement in "swing weight".

Being 4cm back on my mount gives me enough tip to keep my Kartel 98s as an all mountain weapon that handles a bit of pow, does just fine in spring slush, carves in line with the sidecut. They handle great switch, and the swing weight feels just fine whipping quick 2s on or spinning over jumps.

ON3P doesn't make a ski that's recommended to be mounted dead center any more for all these reasons. We put a lot of thought, consideration, and feedback from the team and others who help to develop our skis into the final specs for each ski--trust me, we pick the point that makes the most sense for the intended use.

Though, from looking at pictures of the team riders/skis (yeah im a little obsessed with these kind of things) they seem to mount their skis forward of recommended and even on the pro rider setup he mounts the kartel 106 center...

You can go forward of the line, but you will lose a bit of versatility. On the line, it will be better for all mountain jibbing, and still great in the park.

What's up everyone,

Currently eyeing the Kartel 108 to compliment my Shreditor 92's, which are my rock skis. I live in VT, and will spend most of my time skiing at Sugarbush, and likely take a trip or two out west. Just have a couple concerns:

I'm not much of a jib oriented skier, but I have a playful style and ride switch a fair amount. Will these be too freestyle focused?

Also, I'm 5'11, 160 lbs, and I was leaning towards the 186, but I'm a bit scared they will be too much to handle in VT's tight trees and bumps. Is the 181 too short?

I'm 6'2" 190 lbs and I ski the 186's, and to be honest they definitely ski like they're shorter than they actually are. If I were you I'd probably go with the 181 though, just for the extra maneuverability for east coast trees and bumps and whatnot.

Thanks, I'm pretty torn now. My only concerns are that the 181 could possibly lack stability if I take it out west, and that I wish my 177 K2 Shred 92's didn't ski so short, considering that their edge length is probably pretty similar to the 181 K108's.

Im 6'0 155 and ski a 181 Kartel 106. I live in Idaho and ski very aggressively on them and can only could a handful of times where I wished I had more ski. I love the 181 size. It is right at the top of my head and the skis have plenty of backbone. Unless you fucking charge I think 181 will give you a great mix of maneuverability and stability at speed.

I'm 5'11'' 185lbs and am looking at the kartel 98 for vermont all mtn. I ski 60/40 groomers/park and am not sure if I should go 76, 81 or 86? I last skied on a pair of 168 scott park skis which were short but fun. Any recommendations?

Jumping from a 168 to 180-something will definately take you a few days to get used to.

Everyone kid on NS will tell you to get the 186's for some reason, but I think the 181's would be perfect if you're using them in the park or trees. If you prefer cruising groomers, then go 186cm.

Also use mine in tahoe as a daily....I got no complaints at all for them...edge grip isn't that bad imo and @bgillis I've taken some ripper turns down red dog with them....keep them edges sharp though.

I'm just bigger than you and ride the 181 106. You are 70 inches tall which = 177.8 cm. A 186 will be ~73 inches tall. All depends on how big you want the ski to be.

I'd go with a 181, people for whatever reason on here always suggest going longer with skis but I don't think people take into account that a 181 On3p is more like a 186 in other brands.

I followed the recommendations on here and mounted recommened, although I was sceptical. Couldnt be happier, they ride awesome. If I was riding 100% park i would maybe consider moving up a bit.

Karl mounts his kartels at -2.5 from centre I believe. However im sure he probably has a centre mounted pair for skiing park. Dont count me on that last part forsure.
