What did they change in the FR exactly? I guess its the Magnus now but were there any real changes?

I really don't like when the binding area of the ski is a different color than the rest of the ski... like the 12-inch long black bar right in the middle. Really picky but I think its strange.

the kartel 98 for next year are fresh. Anyone know if they have freerifde or freestyle flex?

are they just expecting the magnus to be their jump specific ski? or do they mot really care about cambered/ jump skis? the prester seemed nice but it also dosent match the style of riding for most the guys on the team so i dont blame them

They have a killer line up. I mean the cover pretty much every aspect of skiing and their skis Rock. It'll be interesting how the kids ski will do in terms of sales.

Presters will be available for pre-order over the summer. It's just not going to be in the main line-up anymore. Not enough people bought them to make it worth production. However, since they still have the molds and run their own production, they can offer them still on an order by order basis. The benefits of a owner run full production shop.

Sander has his model coming, but things got changed up last minute. There's still a strong chance it'll make it into next years line.

I had the same concerns a year ago at SIA, but after thinking it through and riding the Prester more (a non-symmetrical park ski) I've come around. The FR will certainly be missed, but not all change is bad. Magnus and the guys have put in a ton work to make this THE best park ski on the planet. It's shape will actually help with carving both forward and switch while the way it's been profiled will make it balanced keeping the swing weight down. The new rocker shape will make butters and presses even easier while allowing for a more stable platform underfoot. Again, I was worried too, but I'm now convinced that the Magnus is going to be a welcomed change once everyone gives it a go.

This is simple...the FR hasn't changed in 5+ years, it was time. In order to continue progressing, change must happen. The proof was made clear when the Kartel 98 became the top selling ski - by a lot. Everyone thought it was the FR, but the Kartel is simply more versatile and therefore hits a wider market. The FR needed an upgrade - and the Magnus will blow it out of the water.

jackdonovanyeah, ive ridden non-symmetrical skis before but enjoyed the symmetrical aspect of the filthy rich and thought that the magnus would be symmetrical. so is it essentially a non-symmetrical softer filthy rich with a better landing platform?

It's not that easy. The whole ski is restructured as far as shape. It really isn't something you can compare to the FR in the way you're trying to. I should have a pair soon, which will help shed more light on it, but from what I've been told, it carves better than the FR both forward and switch (which I'm excited about - if it can even come close to the way the Prester carves that'd be amazing, but I don't know that it'll do that), it's more stable underfoot and it's soft enough in the tip and tail to butter, but not too soft that you can't hit big jumps with them. The rocker is supposed to allow you to get over the tip and tail for butters and presses a bit more. Honestly, go watch Magnus ski and imagine a ski that was literally designed to do that and you have the Magnus.

As I said above, they'll still be around, just not as prominent. Coming from someone who LOVED skiing the Prester, I fully understand the reasoning behind not putting them into normal production. It's a ski with a super specific purpose. Whenever we talked to people about the Prester people wanted them to be softer and rockered - basically they just wanted the Filthy Rich. It was really only the athletes, myself and a few customers who chose skis like me that were getting the Presters. And then the final nail in the coffin was when most of the team just stayed on the Kartel 98 all the time, it just became clear that the Prester was too one dimensional. The Magnus just hits a wider range of people. It's upsetting, but the truth is that full cambered stiff park skis are a dying breed.

So what is the sander model going to ski like then? More playful BG or something else?

Sorry for the delay. Our first real day back from SIA was Monday, and we showed up to around 450 emails, so we've been working through them as quickly as we can. If you call, please leave a message. Half our guys are on the road, the other half are on the floor in headphones using loud machines, and we don't have a secretary or office person, so yeah, please a message.

If you order was placed ~3 weeks ago, your skis should be ready to ship soon. Lead time on all custom and backordered skis has been 3-4 weeks.

New Kartel 108 is a very very sexy ski.

One of my favorite new skis for this year. It is pretty awesome. Stable, edges as hard as any other 105+ ski!

Way more defined through the turn. Edges exceptionally well and the ski really locks into the turn. New rocker shape is largely to blame IMO. Didn't get to ski through any soft snow other than spring bumps but I have a feeling it will float really well too.

Demoed the Magnus today at Bridger and had such a blast. Probably one of the most fun skies I have ever ridden.

Can't wait for the Alta Demo day, sorry 4frnt, I love your ski's but I have a feeling I'm coming home to On3p next season.

Well I only was able to ski 4 runs of groomers and bumps, so I really only got an initial feel of the ski. On groomers they edge very well, and were extremely fun and poppy. Swing weight was low, Demo was 181 mounted at center, and in bumps they are insanely nimble. The tips seemed to be a smidge softer than the tails, I'd say the tips and tails are medium-soft and increases in stiffness a bit underfoot. The rocker profile is pretty much the same as my Jeffrey 114 and now that I think about it, the Magnus is essentially a narrow iteration of on3p's fun ski shape. I was talking to the guy at the tent and he described the Magnus as a narrower kartel because a lot of their park riders abandoned the Filthy when the kartel 98 came out.

Demo guys might have misspoken or maybe just didn't convey things correctly.

The Magnus is an update to the FR, rather than a skinny Kartel. The changes were made, though, because a large portion of the team thought some updates would make it a much better ski, and all but a few riders were skiing the Kartel 98 primarily for park the past year. The team was moving over to the Kartel for 2 reasons. 1) They prefered the width/stability of the Kartel 98 and 2) Most were not a fan of the way the full symmetrical skis ride switch.

It doesn't have tips as tapered as the Kartel, the mount is much more centered than the Kartel, and the flex is much rounder and more buttery than the Kartel.

It basically took the 5 years of team feedback on the Filthy Rich and updated it, with Magnus is the primary driving force for the direction of the ski.

If you liked the Filthy Rich, you are going to like the Magnus. But we believe it now functions much better as a ski, not just a park ski. Carves better both forward and switch, has a bit less tail rocker so more stable in landings, and a slightly rounder flex and tighter turn radius so it is even easier to carve in and out of features.

^that was much better put. The magnus is definitely much more of a park ski than the kartel, but now that it's not symmetrical I think they gain versatility.

I guess I just mean that the guy who likes skis like the Jeffrey (or any fat, twin tip, fun ski) would have a blast skiing these as a spring all mountain ski, they aren't just a park ski anymore.

I'm on filthys right now and I love em, and I spend a majority of my time in the park. But I also get a lot of enjoyment out if ripping it up out of the park, dodging into the trees (not this season on the east lol) etc which makes me lean towards the kartel. I know I'll enjoy either of the skis I just have to pick

Sorry not this year. Normally we would have planned them around the WWSRA industry demos, but the dates flipped this year and we weren't able to make it down.
