The early days of skiing.

okay i posted this shit in another post, but i wanted everyone to get in on this one. so here goes.
i started skiing in 91, and i rollerbladed the whole time, so skiing for me has always been what you mothas call 'newschool'. i never saw it anyother way.
i used to ditch my poles to do 'japan' grabs, but we called them 'stale' grabs. along with mutes and parralells. we did saftey and lui kang in the begining too.
in 96 i ran into some other kids from a niehboring resort who called themselves the 'cascade posse'. these kids also rolled and did grabs on skis.
soon we began skiing and later renamed the group as the 'midwest allstars' because we began to branch out to all midwest resorts.
our crew was into grabbing and all that shit since the begining, we began to get silly about the same time as the 'new canadian air force' but without the press and connections.
this crew included, Myself(dirty), Ryan Schmies(creator of the public enemy graphic), Alex Applegate, Nate Hammersley, Eric Kohl, Andy Harris, Paul Slavik, and a a bunch of others.
this crew is undoubtedly some of the original inovators in skiing... whether you chose to agree or not, just as jp or other ncaf members what they think. these kids in the crew have tought tricks to some of the biggest names in the sport.
alex applegate is the first kid to really begin to through dspin and cork 7s.
just pick up a copy of an old cascade posse video(yellow school bus, the revolution will not be televised) and see the kids in action way back when, also check out Freedom Productions, 'Declaration' and 'Homegrown' to see the madness unleashed by this crew.

Thats pretty sweet that you guys have been doin all this shit, especially some 'innovative' stuff for a long time. Its too bad I never did the same, but Im from fuckin Illinois and could only get to the 'mountains' on the weekend. I think anyone who rolled did grabs and thought of all this progressive stuff before Freeze and the x-games. I learned to ski at Devils Head maybe 7 years ago, maybe earlier, and as soon as I got good enough to hit jumps I started grabbing mute (uncrossed) and all that other shit. It sounds like you guys had a shitload of fun tho, runnin with a ski crew on hills that were totally unprepared.

i started skiing skiing in late 85 but i only went like 8 times a year and then and than this year i started jumping, so ive only really been skiing (new school) for a year, but i respect anybody that helped inovate this sport

i bought declaration a few years ago when it came out and those guys are throwing dspins, or honkey spins as I remember htem calling it, back in the days or state of mind/degenerates
its pretty groundbreaking stuff
although you guys didn't get the press the NCAF did, you still have the respect from all the people it counts from, like freeze mag, high north, and all the dudes who have been in this for the long haul.

its scott..oh hell yes! you guys inspired me to take a chance at things and start doing weird shit on skis. After i saw your webpage online...i think it was a yahoo club page or something really fuckin ghetto...I grabbed onto myself...it was pretty nice. Schmies and Applegate were the ones who kept me close to the true essence of the sport.

alex applegate spent the past winter at mt baker, skiing pow, he is one of the sickest skiers i have ever met, but he has no urge to be well known or make skiing his career.
alex has been doing 900mctwists in the pipe since 98-99, and dspins since 97. he could be a huge name in the sport but he keeps on the dl with his straightedge attitude and mellow low key fun approach to skiing.

back in 99 i broke some rossi bandits, and the shop guy told me about a ski called the 1080, so i got them. later i found out he was just trying to get rid of them. he thought they were a joke. i picked up an issue of freeskier on the way out. I was hooked

ya dude big al is a nut. He is easily one of the best (if not the best) skier I've ever riden with. Throws down 1080's like nothin, same with corked and dspins. He is just all about the skiing and riding for himself. Last thing I heard of him was that he busted his skogans going for something nuttie out in washington.
