The thing I hate most about my jacket is that there are a million different sized pockets everywhere and I have a dry place to put all my shit. I think my next jacket will be something more like that. Good call.

why all the hate?

I am a big fan of hybrid softshell/hardshell or materials that blend the two. I think something that blocks the wind on the back/outside of the arm all the way to the mid forearm makes a big difference. If you have wind blocking material on the front of the torso, make sure to put some on the back too, even if it does make you a bit sweaty when you ride with a pack. Lined pockets, or at least mesh instead of just a hardhsell material in pockets makes a huge difference imo. Velcro instead of elastic at the cuffs if hardshell sleeves. And if you do pit zips, make sure it goes from the arm to the torso and not perpendicular to the arm, I have a helly jacket like that and they are the least functional pit zips evar.

I'd like to see sleeves that are a bit wider than usual so its easier to put mittens under it, but there must be a way to tighten a strap to keep it from being baggy around the wrist. Try and stay away from Velcro? Unless its very strong and won't be bad quality. Hope this may help with design.

Face. Everything else is easy to keep warm.


I like my neckwarmer because it has a spandex thing that goes over your head and you can get it in the right position easily I am meaning to buy another one that I can specifically cut a big ass hole out for breathing out of on cold ass days so I can block all the air from hitting my face but breathe without it fogging my goggles.

for sure nose. even if you have a face mask on there is always that gap between your face mask and goggles. Unless you put your face mask under your goggles but if you do that you gogs get foggy real fast

Yeah I'd have to agree-- if you're going for a super technical jacket system, I'd roll with Gore-Tex, but that shits hella expensive.

My wallet's pretty cold because it's empty from buying outerwear. Make it the driest jacket ever with vents for $25 and I'll buy the shit out of them. Utilize sweatshops to lower production costs.

Dude love the name spacefruits for real.

I tend to get cold for some reason on real cold days around my neck (obvious reasons since I hate neckwarmers) and my stomach.

But if your designing a jacket. I think the main thing to think about besides waterproofness/tech things, is pocket design.

I love my current jacket has an awesome color scheme but I hate the pocket layout and causes me to put all my things on my left side which really annoys me sometimes if I carry a lot of stuff.

Also a hood that can fit over a helmet comfortably is pretty clutch for super cold days / big snow storms.

I have a big issue with airflow through a coat and overheating. I rarely feel cold when I ride.

well looking at it biologically - if your internals have warm, and only then, the rest of your limbs will start heating up aswell, so make shure stomach&lungs stay warm AS FUCK, and your fingers and feet wont be cold anymore either

(when you have cold, your body first makes shure your organs important to live have warm, and only after that if there's energy left your rest starts heating up. many people complain about having cold fingers or feet regardless how much they layer at those areas, but only wear a tshirt under their jacket because they THINK they're not cold there - obviously, because your body is all busy to not let your organs freeze off)

How to deal with wrists:

Have no taper on the sleeves as they go towards the hands. Have cinch cord in place of velcro. Rubber grip on inside of coat under cinch cord to keep sleeves in place.

Easy as fuck to get over gloves, easy to tighten, stays.

No sleeves because I've that found cold air gets in through the wristz holes, also keeping your arms close to your body keeps them warm.

According to the army field manual, approximately 45% of your body heat is lost through your head, so I think its unwise to leave an open hole where your head should be, it should be well insulated there to keep all HH (Industry Ab. [abbreviation] for Head heat) within the torso area. This also allows for mounted googles.

Ive worked in the industry for many years now with many of the best outerwear producers in the world. We should definitely work together, I'd love to give you more tips and pointers. I attached a copy of some of the fixes I've mentioned. Let me know when youre free to Skype to discuss fingerless park gloves and low-top ski boots, partner!
