Trip Ideas - Looking for a Badass place to go

What's going on NS,
So my girlfriend and I are trying to plan a spring break trip (our plans to go to Daytona fell through) and I need some help brainstorming ideas on where to go because I'm assuming some of you have been to some pretty sick places.
We're up for anything from chilling on a beach somewhere to hiking, but we're trying to shy away from the "stereo-typical" spring break. We're from around the Philly area in PA and were thinking of potentially going to Cali and driving down the coast and seeing what it has to offer but honestly have no idea.
Just looking for a badass place to go!

Driving up and down the coast is a shit ton of time in the car there's some nice views and all but its not summer and there really isn't much between LA. LIke if you are going to fly out of the same airport that you flew into and want to hit LA and SF (and want to see the coast not get to the other ASAP) thats 3-4 full days in the car.
So I'd suggest fly to San Fran u can find dirt cheap flights and rent a car and hit the coast around there for a minute and then go to Tahoe maybe ski a couple days stay in South Lake the really nice hotels in the casino are pretty affordable and can be had for like 60-70 a night and are close to lifts.

Just for perspective you can fly to LA and go down to San Diego and if you wanted to even go spend a night in Vegas or Phoenix (or both) and go back to LA to fly out and its much more practical than trying to make the LA-SF drive down the coast and you'd have more time in those places don't underestimate how long that drive from San Fran to LA is if you don't take highway 5 and want to take the scenic route on the coast trust me it is just fucking slow and LONG! Not saying don't do it just warning you to plan accordingly for that drive taking way longer than you think if you want to go by the ocean.

unless you're flying, do not to anything past Chicago over spring break, you don't have time. Chicago is super fun tho. It might be warm enough to do Shenandoah/Smokies but who's to say?
I'm a fan of skiing over spring break, it seems like somewhere in the northeast always is getting a storm in march and most people are over it by that point so the crowds are never as bad. Two years ago for spring break I skied thigh deep at jay which beats the hell out of cancun.

if you're of drinking age, could fly to LA, rent a car, and drive up to san fran and hit up the wineries along the way
