How are these? Anyone drive one have a little review? bed size big enough for skiing equipment and what not? mpgs? etc....
Currrently in a 2003 jetta nearing the end of its life and looking to upgrade to something bigger with AWD. Also will be buying used since I think the best value for cars is a few years old so someone else can take the hit on depreciation.
Right now looking at...
Tacoma
4runner
frontier
wrangler 4 door
Tahoe
All used around the 23-25k range roughly 30-40,000 miles on them.
Frontier caught my eye...still pretty small size relative to ther SUVs and trucks...and can get it quite cheaper than the tacoma (which is my #1 right now). But read some mixed reviews on them and Nissan reliability.
My dads used Frontiers as a company truck for probably 20 years. Hes got trucks still driving with 300,000+ miles from good care and maintenance. I drove an 07' stock model for a few days and it wasnt bad. Cant say i did much in though aside from everyday driving, cant even speak on skis as it was in the summer, but id imagine theyd fit.
I have an 02 Tacoma. Love the thing to death but in hindsight I would have rather gotten a 4runner. I don't really have that many practical uses for the bed after I moved. I have the 4 cylinder 2.7l and get about 20 mpg in town and highway.

Been looking at a 4runner. All comes down to realistically what I can get a better deal on. 4runner would be my #1...but its more expensive than a tacoma. And I really like the new body style on the 4runner.
Still looking around planning on buying after the winter. I do agree...I don't have much use for the bed and would probably have more use in a SUV

dude the new 4runners look so sick, and i love how you can raise and lower the back window. definitely a solid car for skiing related activities. there are a ton of old 4runners i see all the time, so i'd imagine they last for a while too
if you're looking for something smaller, i drive an Xterra, enough room in the back for skis etc but not a massive SUV
I have a 2011 Frontier I bought with 24XXX, now at 52XXX
Cant say enough good stuff about it! I have the Pro4X model, so i have full leather, heated seats, roof rack, sun roof, 10 speaker rockford fosgate with sub, loaded. Its the perfect truck for getting me to and from the mountains, hauling my bikes around, camping, off road, pretty much everything to can throw at it all while being super comfortable and completely capable!
MPG wise it is not the best, I average 14ish around town. I do have a tuner on mine, and have gotten as high as 23 on longer road trips though!
The bed can fit skis but they have to go diagonal, which kind of sucks up space. I have a ski rack on top and a toneau cover on the back, so with those i can easily fit 5 people + skis + gear to trek to the mountains comfortably.
Everyone always wants to go for a tacoma, until they see the price. Yeah, its a toyota, yeah it has great resale value, but in the end it doesn't really compare with the frontier. (less power, no boxed frame, rust issues) I will say the tacoma has better aftermarket options, but I have done a bunch of stuff to my truck without much issue. (wheels, tires, lift, light bar, tuner)

I've posted these pictures before, but heres my truck.
i say Tacoma because thats what I have and love it. As far as someone else taking a hit on depreciation, not really going to happen with tacomas, they hold their value pretty well
I owned a 2005 Frontier for 2 years or so. Nothing but problems on it, the thing was a constant source of problems. Sold it and bought a Taco, its been a awesome truck. There is a reason they hold their value better and cost more.
Had a new 2006 king cab with a six foot bed. I had a few minor issues (tire inflation light was boot leg and would always come back on, had a heat panel that would sometimes vibrate a screw loose), none that would ever deter me from another. I took out the plastic bed liner and had a rhino lining sprayed in. I also installed a hitching system similar to what their upper models offered. Worked great for all my sporting equipment and home improvements. I only recently had to sell it because I couldn't fit a second child seat into it.
I have a 2012 base model 4x4 with the extended bed, and love it. Only issue I had was that the previous owner let the battery terminals corrode to crap, and it shorted and fried the ecu. Dealer I bought it from paid to have it fixed. Having driven both this and the tacoma, I can tell you that the fronty drives significantly more like a truck than the taco. Higher driving position, more horizontal steering wheel, and stiffer suspension. Tacoma is like a camry with a bed.
