Does switch feel faster?

Is it just me or does riding switch, especially into jumps, feel way faster than normal. I'll be riding into a jump and feel like I'm going to overshoot, but end up knuckling it. Does anyone else experience this?

Yes. I find it very hard to judge speed when riding switch.

I ride switch so often ive gotten used to it and it doesnt feel like it. I assume its all in your head

yes. and i think its half mental half physical, when riding forward you always carve a bit more and subconsciously speed check. riding switch its pretty much a strait shot for me haha.

I've gotten used to it from riding switch so much, I find I tend to pop harder when doing tricks switch which results in going deeper. nothing wrong with that though.

^ This. It is usually a more aerodynamic package. Also it can because the weight distribution on the skis is changed.

The correct tuck to be able to see well is effectively a race tuck which in turn speeds you up big time. You need to get your weight forward to get your eyes downhill and you are more aerodynamic than normal. So just remember why that is leading to you going faster than normal.


And you want to practice switch on easy ass shit so you can bomb it and ski properly and gain confidence but often good skiiers avoid those areas so dont' feel like a pussy looking out super easy terrain to practice on.

It's also because when you get scratches on your skis riding forward they kind of hold back your speed, but when you ride switch the scratches direction are running with the way you are riding. This was hard to explain haha

it does feel faster to me. I always try to drop in faster then i think i need to in order to compensate, I know what happens to your ankles when you don't drop in switch fast enough...

It's because you're not as good switch as you are forwards. Try snowboarding. You'll feel like you start moving really fast really quickly, even though you're actually going pretty slow. It's a confidence and comfort thing.

If I swivel to switch and keep my head pointed down the hill I kind of keep the mindset of riding forward and it's easier to judge speed. If you feel confident riding switch then judging the speed will come natural. It just takes some practice.
