Epic Roadtrip. Tahoe input needed

Squaw and Alpine for days. Kirkwood is pretty rad too but a bit of a trip, but I guess you could involve a fin night in South Lake if you were gonna go down that way, and the drive is absolutely gorgeous, so it might be worth your while. If you wanna do a strictly park kinda day, I'd say hit up Northstar. Alpine has been setting up a pretty decent park as of late though, so keep an eye on that.

Bottom line, stick to Squaw and Alpine as much as you can and on weekdays. Tahoe in the spring is so much fucking fun, you guys will have a blast. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any more questions, I lived out there for 4 years and know enough about the area to give you a decent idea of what to do/expect. Cheers.

I think you are not getting the point that this guy clearly can ski at those 3 places totally for free on his epic pass(hence hitting Vail and PC) and would have to pay for Squawpine. So thats good advice if he wants to buy 100 dollar a day lift tickets but if he doesn't your a little off base.

So OP Northstar sucks I think you want to stay in South Lake Tahoe and just shred Heavenley and Kirkwood. If you are in SLT the Kwood drive is 40 minutes and its no big deal people just act like its really far away because its 2.5 hours from Reno and just as far from North Lake.


Again if you want to shred for free Heavenley and Kirkwood are much better than Northstar which is pretty flat and boring I'd just stay in South Lake its very affordable tons of hotels and casinos and both mountains have legit terrain. You will like hopping on the Gondola next to the casinos to shred HEavenley and Kwood won't disappoint it has the best snow and the steepest terrain.

Agreed. But I promise you its worth it if your travelling all the way to Tahoe. You can't not do Squaw for at least a day. Put some extra overtime in your job or spend a weekend not going out...there is your $200.

Thanks for the input guys, probably won't ski Squaw just because it's not on the epic and honestly I can't afford it/I'm too cheap. Buttt, thank you all. I'll prob message all you helpful californians with questions

if you want to ski park, northstar is definitely your best option out of your choices.

Ah dude you don't gotta do that if you go into California and cross the border (all the casinos are directly on the CA/NV border) there are tons of motels you can find something for literally 20-30 bucks a night no sweat(the nice shit is in NEvada where you can gamble) and they are just as close to the Heavenly Gondi.

You could look into it and call places and find a room for the week for under 50 bucks a head Im not exaggerating.

I got weekly rates at the Horizon casino (think they changed it and made it nicer) for 180 a week 2 years ago.


Car camp in Vail and PC though no bargains there!

Fabulous mountain but it isn't perfect it gets skiied out fast as fuck the bowls are icy and moguly and its expensive if you didn't get a season pass there for a few hundred. But again its a great hill not many better in the US.

But honestly it gets the least snow Sugar Bowl next door gets a few inches more every storm and Kirkwood is Kirkwood and gets hammered. I mean don't get me wrong it gets the same that Northstar and Alpine gets but there is a difference Tahoe is a funny place the snow quality is definitely better in SLT.


Kirkwood and Heavenly are perfect for where they are at and if they spend 10 minutes on legwork to find a room and call around to the motels 4 dudes will literally be throwing down 30-40 each for a weeks rooms and skiing. And South Lake has shit around it theres nothing around Squaw and North Lake is small and kind of resorty they'd spend significantly more on food being in North Lake. South Lake is a normal mid sized town in California its not really a resort town nothing has higher prices in terms of food and shit so they can all get down on some PIzza Hut for 4-5 bucks each after.


They have the right idea hit Utah and Vail for a day each on the way there but don't stay over and on the way back hit them again and rage Tahoe for a week.

Heavenley is awesome because the good shit is so out of the way there and it has an awkward layout so gapers just travel back and forth between intermediate runs. If its not the only place you ski you have good days there I haven't skiied there in 3 years and would love a day skiing there hopping the gondi from the Casinos just for convenience as much of anything.


Everyone in Tahoe is spoiled though those resorts crush almost anything anywhere else with snow.

Northstar sucks though its right off the highway but you only wanna hit it if its your last day and you are travelling to/from the airport.

Nice lifts and if you are passing by go by all means but thats when you should do it the day you arrive/leave don't drive up there from South Lake and waste a day.

Apparently you have been gone that long. Squalpine averages 100 more inches per year, and is located significantly higher in elevation.


Snow is but one of many reasons I dislike N* haha.

I was a Squaw guy during my ski bum years but since that is not on the epic I would head to Kirkwood. It is a great mountain and it gets more snow than anywhere in Tahoe. I think, like others have said, that you could stay in South Lake for pretty cheap with several guys. You can party in South Lake but be careful, you don't want to ruin a ski day by being hungover. You can party plenty at CU so you might as well use this time to ski as much as possible. I was never a fan of Northstar, all they really have going for them is park, and I would not go on a road trip to ski park, you can do that in Colorado. Hit Kirkwood and maybe Heavenly too, you will be glad you did.

really though if you're up in tahoe on a friday, I definitely recommend hitting boreal. $15 with student ID's. if you're big into park, boreal definitely has some interesting features to hit. it's a small mountain but it's pretty fun.

Seriously? Why would you recommend boreal for summit county folks over Kirkwood, heavenly, or northstar? All of which are free for them.

Stay the fuck away from heavenly. But northstar and kirkwood are where its at. Also make it up to Sierra for a day and shred with the locals, by sprng sierra should have one of the best parks in cali
