Replying to Would a movie about freeskiing be successful?
I'm not talking about ski movies like warren miller... I mean a big-time movie about the history of freeskiing that could air in theaters around the country and be nominated for awards.
I feel like the way skiing just exploded in the early 90's and how fast It developed could make a really good screenplay. The "underdog" theme usually does well in theaters. Skiers challenged the system by ripping through "snowboard only" parks and being different. The development of twin-tips by JLev and the way skiers like McConkey and Auclair pushed the limits is incredible.
I understand that not everybody would be interested, but millions of people participate in winter sports. Just like millions of people enjoy Football, basketball, ect. Every team sport has had a pretty popular movie made after it. "The blind side" for the NFL, "Field of dreams" for the MLB, "Mirale for the NHL... I feel like skiing would do pretty well with the guts required to push the limits and the scenery of the mountains to provide a good atmosphere.
Obviously, I'm very biased. But its just an idea. I love writing and its pretty fun to think of different ways to get skiing out there.
