I have a 2003 9-3 saab and as much as I love my first car I need a new one. I want an awd turbo diesel so if you have any suggestions or want to sell or trade hmu

Yeah it's really hard to find one in the US without spending a ton of money on a Q7 or a Touareg or paying to import something from europe. I drive an '03 Jetta TDI wagon and with snow tires the 2 wheel drive is fine except for like 3 or 4 days out of the year when it's really icy. And I live on a large hill in Vermont so that's saying something, but if you live out west it's not worth it since you'll have to deal with chain checkpoints.

Hopefully someday the US will come to its senses and develop a demand for AWD diesel wagons, but I'm sure the whole VW scandal didn't help that too much

its been a while since i lived in the states, but aren't you allowed to import cars older than 25 years? can you guys get r32 skylines yet? or are they still a no go? if you can import 25 year old jdms, then look at toyota hilux, and hilux surf. they are turbo diesel pickups and 4runners.

i remember there was an issue with DOT and the skylines, maybe that still applies to 25 year old jdms, not sure though.

why the US has failed to embrace small diesel vehicles, i do not know.

Yea you can import r32s now and awd turbo diesel isn't really a thing in the US. Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the audi/vw mentioned above and the bmw x series and maybe a Mercedes would fit that.

Sort of related, I've always wondered why it's nearly impossible to find a vehicle with an engine smaller than a 1.8 L in US and Canada when everywhere else in the world you can get 1.2 and 1.4 L engine in cars no problem at all. You'd think there would be enough demand for them. Or maybe the oil companies have some agreement with auto companies to keep them off the market since they don't burn as much fuel.

Depends on your budget. You have a limited amount of options in the car game. There are a few vw's and audi's. If you have the money you could go with one of the ram Eco-diesels or Chevy Colorado with a duramax. Otherwise Diesel engine swaps are actually pretty easy depending on the ride. You can pick up old ('90-'08) TDI engines for a decent price and with a variety of tranny configurations.

Depends on your budget, Audi has the a3 that's a turbo diesel I believe. Why do you want diesel in specific? There's so many options for straight up turbo awd, subarus, Mitsubishi, BMW etc
