Anyone else get this from a snowboarder or any other non-skier? I have and I find it pretty weird that even after a few years of skiing slopestyle in the x-games, some people are still this ignorant to our sport. Haha, it's great sometimes.

yea all the time but i get 'oh so you do those little short mini snowboard things?' more. If u saw the new york times today, they had an article on snowboarding and how resorts like mammoth, brekenridge and other places are dominated by 'cool baggy clothes, snowboarders who ride in the snowboard parks'it was amusing

I get it all the time, mainly because I live in Ohio so freeskiing doesn't really get any exposure. I almost killed a kid last week. There were a few snowboarders fixing the lip to a rail, so I went over and helped them. Then some snowboarder yells from the lift, 'Hey, stop fucking with the jump you dumbasses.' I yell back, 'We're fixing it so it's not just a ride-up dumbass.' The response I got makes me laugh now, but at the time I was ready to kill him - 'Why don't you fucking learn how to ride it first, then talk.' Although I like the under-exposure, because it's nice to go into a park and show kids around here that skiing can be just as 'cool' as snowboarding.

yeah I get that all the time, I used to explain how skiers were able to slide rails, but now I just say yep, and leave it at that. I was talking about the x-games last year with a friend of mine who snowboards, and a girl overheard our conversation and asked me 'you can do flips and stuff on skis? but don't the skis get in the way?' I didn't even know how to begin answering that one.

when someone says something like that I usually just try to make them feel dumb and say things like 'yeah so I am thinking of trying a switch butter 5 on th first table to right side 3 japan and then a 270 onto the trap to blind side switch up to frontside 270 out then a cab cork 7 blunt on the money booter.' then they look at me completely baffled

i love it in the parking lot of logan pass in glacier national park in the summer. your getting all set up to go ski, and the tourists see your skis and ask, 'are you going skiing?' then we go build jumps with the landing close to the hiker trail, adn sometimes they come up and take pictures. its really funny. one year a buddy of mine stuck a cork7,. and this one lady freaked out

i live in michigan and basically like everyone at my school knows i ski cuz im the only one there that didnt join the snowboarding fad. But whenever im explaining it to someone else, i say i ski and they assume i go down the hill on 2 10 foot long boards and wear indiglo 80's snowsuits, and carve back and forth like a fag. its easier just to say i snowboard cuz its closer to freeskiing than what their image of skiing is.

yeah I've gotton used to people being completely ignorant about it. A lot of my stuff in art this year has been about skiing (most of it actually), and every time I finish a piece my teachers seem to forget what exactly freeskiing is, and how it differs from regular skiing. One of my teachers always refers to my stuff as being about snowboarding, only because I talk about jumps and rails and he automatically associates that with snowboarding.

I was riding up with this girl who snowboards (total bitch) anyways, there where some guys snowboarding down the trail under the chairlift and she says to me that a guy who can go downhill on a snowboard and dresses wicked 'cool' is really hott to her. well i dont know about you guys, but in my knowledge, skiiers go faster, bigger, and do more tech stuff than most snowboarders. PLUS, you're average guy on twintips is better in park and slopes than your average guy on a board.. just because so many kids do it. Think about how many kids can do 3s on skis, and how many can do a 3 on a board. face it, we're newer, but we do cooler stuff

^ Snowboarders, though, do still own rails. You can't compare style between the two sports just because they are just too different. It would be like comparing bmx with skateboarding style.

at my hill, all the old people try to be cool by saying things like 'so you ski switch eh?' and whatnot when they see you have 'skis that are turned up at both ends'. i was riding the lift with one guy who informed me that our 15 foot flat box was too long for the kids to enjoy. i wanted to punch him in his wrinkly face. oh he was also livid about how the box wasnt ride on. lol.

you also have to keep in mind that snowboarding is about 2 years ahead of skiing as far as progression is concerned. watch like mack dawg pulse or full metal edges, two sick movies from 2002, and the type of trick/jumps/rails they are doing are similar to what is going on in skiing today. that isnt really impressive seeing as snowboarding has always been based aroud freestyle whereas skiing has only had this focus for ten or so years.

haha i remember one time, there was a jump up to this rail, and were all standing at the top of the inrun, and some snowboarder goes to the jump up to the rail and just starts chopping away at it, he just totally demolished the jump. Everybody was like what the hell are you doing. He said that rails dont have jumps up to them, you are supposed to jump on

no i really hate it, most of the public dosent understand it and it feels like i have to repeat myself over and over to people about freeskiing in general.....even my mountain, just yesterday one of the lift attentands was traiing a new guy..and he was like, skis with 'double tips(picks up my skis) need two spots in the gondola rack, cuz they have a pronounced tail, so they can ride backward' plus this lift attendant was no more than 20 years old too...

yeah, i get it all the time. It makes me so mad that people perceive skiers as preppy johnny tsunami skier type people. and they have NO idea what freeskiing is. It also frusterates me when i wear my i am skier shirt to school, boarders who iv seen board, and they suck, say stuff like 'skiings gay'. like, are they TRYING to be retarded? Boarders are usually very chill. but then there's the ones who 'claim' they snowboard, and they suck so bad, so they just bust on skiers. people dont get what skiing is these days. what a poor poor world.

the cool thing about skiing is that there arent alot of poseurs in the sport. boarding has been around for so long that you get kids like that. they sit on thier asses in thier fancy suits and top end boards in the park all day, and just bash people.

whoever said snowboarders have rails is wrong, watch ne snowboard movie then watch a skiing movie, though snowboarders can, skiers spin way more onto rails and crap, 450 on, 450 off, cork 810 to rail! i wanna see a boarder do that, at my hill, there are some snowboarders that can spin on but they suck, there are way more skiers that are good at rails at my hill, but maybe its just me

yea yesterday at Sunapee i was bombing this groomer and I launched a routine 180 over a big bump next to this snowboarder and his friends and he starts screaming OMFG HES RIDING BACKWARDS LOOK LOOK and after wards they came up to me in the cafiteria and told me 'i was sweet at skiing'

skiing in the park is pretty big at my hill. All of the skiers (not including posuers) can spin at least a five and a bunch of them can throw switch 5's and 7's. there are only a few snowboarders that can throw 5's and clear the deck. but most people outside of the park that come there think the snowboarders are gods until a few skiers throw down.
