Anyone been to BELIZE

Like the title says Im booking myself a trip to sun and sand since I cant ski due to having to have surgery for a hernia. Anyone ever been? Im thinking of spending the majority of my time on Ambergris Caye with maybe a day or three inland in the jungle hiking and waterfall jumping. Hostels the whole way unless anyone has and info about free beach camping?

I went there on a cruise for a day and it was awesome, I went ziplining and cave tubing. I'm not exactly sure where I was but I remember seeing little get thingys on the beach near the ship. I can't imagine that they would be very expensive

I spent a week on Ambergris caye. Amazing place. Not sure i can help you too much. I stayed in a house my brother found on air b and b.

If you can get to the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave outside of Cayo, go through it. That was one of the most amazing experiences of my life

Stayed on Ambergris caye for a bit. Its an awesome place, awesome diving if you dive and if not the snorkelling is also pretty mint.

Little get thingys? Please explain these things??

Also I was planning on doing a cave float for a day away from the beach. I hear it can be a bit of a bore tho? A lot of walking and paddling compared to the amount of actual slow floating you have to do?

I actually enjoyed the Cayo district a lot more than Ambergis. Ambergis is cool, but its a lot like any Caribbean / Tropical beach town you've ever been to. Its extremely touristy and doesn't have a lot of the character of Belize.

Definitely go to Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM). Its one of the most unique experiences you'll ever have. You climb through a cave waste deep in water and see the Mayan underworld.

Also check out some of the incredible wildlife around Cayo / San Ignacio. San Ignacio is the breadbasket of Belize, which means its where all the non-seafood food comes from. The produce is incredibly fresh and delicious. The locals are super welcoming and will go out of there way to make sure you have a good experience. It helps a lot that English is the native language even though many of the workers at the resorts are from Guatemala.

Feel free to DM for other recommendations, but overall my recommendation is to spend more time in the Cayo than in Ambergis. Your dollar goes a lot further in land. We stayed at Chaa Creek in San Ignacio, which I highly recommend.

I've been to San Pedro, which is just south of Ambergis Caye. I had a wonderful time. I got about 8 hours of dive time in 6 days and would highly recommend diving as much as possible. The reef, second largest to the great barrier reef, is incredible. Tons of wildlife, the most vivid colors I've seen in my entire life. 10/10 would do a again.

PRO TIP: take a puddle jumper if you fly into Belize City. The water taxi is possibly the most nauseating experience of my life and I only took the taxi from the airport to my resort.

I was there for a cruise too, it made me realize how much poverty there really is in the world. Sleeping on the beach sounds sketchy if you were to get mugged or something. When we got there our tour guide said the whole country runs on tourism so they literally adore Americans. The cave tubing was actually pretty fun to check out, and the rum is pretty good there too.

The more I read about it the more I want to do one of these cave tubing tours. Seems like a great way to crush some brews. Im taking this trip mainly for the beach and water after not having been to once since I backpacked to Ecuador, Columbia and Peru.

Been thinking about splurging for the plane since it looks like its only about $50 more after you figure in the taxi to the port and then the shuttle. Plus it only takes 15 mins.

Sorry, I meant to say hut thingys, damn auto correct. And with the cave tubing there was a pretty good current so we just floated down but at the end it was definitely a little boring. Also where I went we didn't have to do any walking

Been to Ambergris Caye a bunch. PM me if you have any questions, but if you go there make sure you snorkel Hol-Chhan, shark Ray alley, and Mexico rocks. It's been a while and I've really been wanting to go back. Gorgeous place.

Yeah but they're like 9.7oz so it feels like you can drink way more until you notice that haha. I went in November to ambergris caye, it was awesome needless to say. Stayed at Ramon's- big diving resort-type thing. Dove the blue hole too. If/when you go, there's a bar right around the corner (to the right) of the airport called Carlo and ernies, definitely grab a bite and some cheap beers. Owners are awesome dudes. Lots of locals hang there, including all the employees from our hotel haha.

And in terms of drugs, just walk down the beach and be touristy. You'll find whatever you want.

Only real down side is the beaches can have a bit more trash than I was expecting, as well as tons of fuckin sea grass that's washed up. If I stop being hung over I'll post some pics I took

Yea a lot of the pics of the beaches I saw it almost looked like seaweed all up by the shore for the first 50 yards into the water. Did you ever venture up north of san pedro to what looks like to be the less inhabited and more rural parts of the mtn?
