Atomic Triplets, here's the deal

I was at the NSIA yesterday and found out the real deal on what was going on with these skis. Some of the information has already been posted but I'll tell you everything I know anyways.

1. Yes, you get 3 skis instead of 2. Each ski has a different graphic. The purpose of having 3 skis is if you break one or screw one up, you can send it back for warrenty and you still have a pair to ski with.

2. There will be 2 different versions of the triplets:
- Urban triplets: very soft flex, really sick graphics, city design, super light and 2 extra edges underfoot integrated into the base. What I mean by this, about an inch away from the edge, you have a second edge in the base to prevent wear and tear in the base of the ski.

- Air triplets: A bit stiffer construction, PINK graphics...and no they're not just for the ladies. And I mean PINK!

3. THE BIG SCOOP ON THIS ONE IS: they will be coming with three bindings...and no they are not ATOMIC! well sort of...It's a Look Pivot binding with atomic's name on it.

4. They still have the Tweaks but they changed the name, I can't remember.

5. They have a new fat twin called the PIMP. It's huge, it's fat and it's sick. Dark red topsheet with nothing too fancy but a nice simple design.

P.S. These cosmetics are subject to change, they are not necessarily the final products.

sounds like a good idea, hopefully the width on the triplets is a little wider. but 3 atmoci skis with 3 bindings sounds like it's going to be the most expensive thing on the face of the earth espically coming from atomic, id like to see if they can compete with k2 fujative/public enemy price points...

i saw Tom Dozel with them while he was here today, they look nice.. they kinda have the tips and tails like the Big Stix, they have 3 divits in the tip like K2s... they look like they are mid fat and werent pink so they must be the urban kind...

well I dont really know the retail price, only the cost, but it should be around 900 to 1000$ Canadian for the whole setup. Which is dirt cheap for what you get

ya i was at gore n there was a demo n a guy from atomic was tellin me about them...u get 3 skis, 3 bindings so if u break one u dont have to buy new ones...or u can buy 2 sets n 3 poeple can use them

sounds unneccesary and pricey for me.....could be just because i have never broken a ski so i see no need for a third...

that have to make sure that it won;t be cheaper to buy 2 pairs of fujatives. cause i could do that with 1 set of bindings and if one brakes just remount on another pair. and then i have 4 skis instead of 3.

it sounds like a super dope idea, but i think how much they plan to let it retail for will be a big factor,

you guys say it's expensive, but at 900$ it's around the same price as mounting a pair of Armadas or 4Frnts with the same binding....but you get an extra ski and binding

$900 canadian = $740 us. that's a lot. who pays that much for a pair of skis? or should i say 3 skis? cheaper to get the K2's.

well with a pair of ARVs with bindings it cost me 940 cdn so it actually is not that expensive

its all relative to how much you spend on your skis normally. me i spend like 600 or less if i can so i would not spend that much. but somebody else might. its a good idea regardless.

everyone is comparing ski prices to the K2's...it's always about K2, I find their skis sick just as much as the next guy, but the reason they're less expensive is because they're made in China for like 5 cents a pair

im still not totally convinced its a good idea - some skis will get more fucked than others, giving you an uneven ride. but the look bindings is good.

it sounds like a sick idea cuz when i grind w/ my fujatives i notice that only 1 ski gets abused, so i will be able to keep the ski i don't rail with for jumps and pipe, i cant wait for these things to come out.

man i was killing the blades i did like a twirlly bird backscratcher to spread eagle. my blades are powder blades i want some race blades because u can defiantly carve way better with those ones because of the spaceframe technology. skiing is quite clearly gay anyway blading is the way to go for sure becuase u can twirl and stuff-Fester

The sick thing is, 3 people could each pay equal amounts and get a pair of skis and bindings for probably cheaper than they would normally. But that is actually a pretty good idea, we will see how it works out.

buy 2, get a pair free. 1800 for 6 pairs of skis and bindings. Thats 600 each. Thats an pretty crazy deal. These skis sound sick too, so maybe this idea will fly. Good marketing strategy if you ask me, and seems to me like a good time to unleash it. Right around the time when durability problems are huge.

how do you figure you get six pairs of skis? you get 6 individual skis if you buy two sets. unless you get a free pair if you buy two sets, maybe im misunderstanding you...but anyways 1800 divided by 6 is 300 anyways, something is wrong.

Has anyone asked the question, why would you need 3 pairs? My point is, if they're offering you 3pairs, they're not really standing behind their durability. And for 900 bucks, they'd have to be made cheaply for Atomic to make any profit.

I can see why they would do 3 skis, but I think that the third binding is uneeded. The only scenario is that if you broke your ski on friday and had a comp saturday morning, not being able to get to a shop that afternoon. You only need one pair of bindings for the three skis.

i tihnk the point of the thrid binding is so that every time you go skiing you can rotate a ski, so technically you'll be putting less use overall on your skis to be able to prolong the life of them.

Why not just work on making your skis better, thereby eliminating the need to package a third ski? And has anyone thought of how this will affect warranty coverage?

I dont really think its the best idea. For 1 how many of you have actually 'broken' a ski besides just rail damage and that, which is just as likely to happen on both skis, so eventually you'll have 2 really beat up ones and one decent one. And 2. they are basically admitting 'We cant figure out how to make them durable so we'll sell backups. Its like a car company giving you a second engine in the trunk when you buy a new car because they know their junk is going to break sooner or later. Doesnt really inspire confidence in the product

Yea i think the 3rd ski thing is a good creative idea, but its not gonna work out, for 900 bux, i could get 2 sets of lines or scratches and just rotate those
