CU Boulder 2020

Who's heard back from CU so far? I got in early action for civil engineering, super pumped to head out West. Confirmed enrollment today so most likely will be going.

Take me word, a freshman here now, don't take applied math. Shit is retarded. They herd all the engineering students into APPM 1350 (Calc 1 in applied math school) and its stupidly hard. Not beneficial even. Save your time, stress, parents money, and take MATH 1300.

Lol I took Calc 2, and got the AP credit. My adivsor talked me into calc 1. College calc is a lottttt different than high school

Calc 1 is a joke. If you learn how to manipulate the list of derivatives (like 15-20) of them whatever it was...the class will be simple.

I memorized everything and studied my ass off for a week doing that in the beginning of the class when I was taught was a derivative was since I didnt take it in HS. Helped so much its indescribable. Breezed through with little studying after that with an A+

I will remember this, I'm currently taking AP Calc and haven't had too much trouble with it but I plan on not taking insane classes next year

This. As much as a pain APPM courses might be, you should take them. I doubt you can take all MATH department courses anyway, so it would a terrible decision to take calc 1 in the MATH department and then transfer to APPM for calc 2, calc 3, and DFQ.

Indeed 50% of the material I learned in calc 1 and DFQ is irrelevant to me now. And nearly 100% of the material I learned in calc 2+3 is irrelevant to me now. But rigor of the APPM courses prepare you for engineering and are as helpful for gaining problem solving skills.

I'm a junior in Environmental Engineering.

lol at you guys thinking calc and any pre req class is hard. Wait till you get into upper division classes and you'll be wishing you were taking classes as easy as calculus or Diff Eq.

Like the dude said above me, the vast majority of what you learn in those classes you won't use again. The problem solving skills you pick up on the way is what counts, but upper division classes will be way more challenging, and a lot more work.

Am a sophomore business student. From around here but love Boulder, although I tend to like the culture of the city outside the school more than the school itself.

If you like to ski then U of U trumps CU by far. The commute does not even compare to the shit show of I-70. Plus UT blower. I mean really CU is a good school but the skiing in UT is so accessible it's unrivaled. You just can't get it anywhere else.

As for op, I think you should take classes through the math department. In my experience the APPM classes are unnecessarily hard and you'll have challenging classes soon enough during sophomore year so why hurt your GPA and skiing time early on.

That's a load of bullshit. I've taken calc during highschool and am now taking it again in college. Professors can fail you simply for writing the answers in ways you don't like.
