Best lens for Skiing

what lenses do you guys use for skiing, and what the best one is that is affordable

for photos I almost always use a 70-200, a great affordable option would be a nifty 50mm f1.8

if you want to get up real close and real wide, the Rokinon 8mm is your best bet because it is a tank, the thing just wont die.

if you want more of a tighter shot, go with the 70-200. Canon's f4 non-is model is like dirt cheap (600$ most)

can attest to this, put it on the roof of my car in the summer and drove away and it fell onto the road. luckily my friend noticed, but all there appeared to be was a couple small scuffs.
that being said, i think its too wide for skiing, mainly because of how quickly a skiing filmer's speed can need to change. which why its a great lens for skateboarders (they can quickly speed up/ slow down) but isnt ideal for skiing - at least for follow cams

I mostly do follow cams and close ups so I have an Olympus 12-40mm I think its amazing. Gets everything in frame within such a short distance. But.... Its pretty $$$

The rokinon 35 around f2 is a really good lens aswell! thats more around $400

If you want a cheaper Canon lens to shoot wide angle, I shot with a Canon 10-22mm for a number of years, not any more though. It's a super wide and fun lens that isn't too expensive.

Besides that, I pretty much keep a Canon 70-200 2.8 L on my camera body, really good all around lens.

That lens is also about 600 bucks.

Seriously dude dont get a fisheye if you plan on using the lens for more than follow shots etc lets say even use the lens for normal photos. Ok ok get the canon 10-18mm ultra wide angle 300 bucks new just as sharp as the 12-22. Sharper than alot of the wide angles and fish eyes out there. I use it for all my filming unless using some prime lenses. Still more optically clear than a zoom will ever be.

Brand new yes, I got mine for $400 from a wedding photog

Did you seriously post "reviews" from B&H to agrue your point?


The 14mm has awful distortion, the tokina 11-16 is 1000 time better and if you have a full frame id hope you put better glass on it than the shit rokinon 14mm.

I have the Rokinon 14mm and on a t3i it's not thaaaat bad.

Then again I did pick my up for $130 and was barely used and came with a year warranty. For that price, the lens is worth it.

I fully agree with eheath, got a 14mm last fall for $200 and it is by far the most terrible lens I've ever used, corners look terrible on FF and strait horizontal lines don't stay strait at all. The 11-16 is way way better for both crop and full frame I use mine @ 16mm FF no problem. I love my other rokinon lenses but the 14mm is pure trash

yea... that's a terrible arguement. The distortion on the rokinon 14mm is god awful, although put on a crop sensor it's more barrel than anything. At that price I'd rather pay a lil more and just grab an 11-16

I use a rokinon 14mm! I bought by error the cinelens one, which brought my wide angle down a little. Disapointed about that but it is still awesome! Pretty sharp and still really wide. I always wanted to buy a Tokina 11-16 though, probably the best wide-angle lens for APS-C.

Oakley is a luxury brand and similar to other luxury brands does not allow it's dealers or does not itself, every place things on sale. i loved this brands for lens
