Maintaining Highlights and Details in Highlights

I need a little help. I'm color grading in premiere pro and when I add contrast via curves or the contrast slider I always lose the details in the snow. IDK if its my Canon SL1 but how do I keep my highlights intact while shooting (I shoot in Cinestyle and it was a cloudy day when I was shooting)

Never mind I realized that since it was a flat, overcast day that thats why there was no shadows and there was no details in the highlights... My bad

You're probably right on the overcast day and lack of detail, but it could also be that (to my knowledge) the grading in Premiere Pro doesn't take each frame as it's own .JPEG (like Adobe Speedgrade does) so some of the quality can be diminished.

But seriously, skiing is probably the hardest thing in the world to shoot without having fucked up highlight and shadows.

I downloaded SpeedGrade from the Creative Cloud Application and Graded the whole thing and it turned out much better

On a cloudy day the snow will loose details and look super white, I usually just make sure that I'm not over-exposing it and when color-grading I put my attention on keeping nice details on the skiers.
