1. Where is the better skiing between Wanaka and Queenstown?

2. Between Wanaka and Queenstown who has better housing option?

3. Whats the cost of living/money making Situation Between Wanaka and Queenstown?

4. Where else in NZ/Australia should I be considering for spending a winter?

Thinking about heading down there last week of May. Too late for finding a job?

Its an insane mountain with some great skiing... I had a big mountain comp there this past season. They're park is pretty mediocre though. Ohakune is pretty remote. For park, Cardrona is far superior to anything else in the area.

That comp last season was on pure ice, great fun!

wanaka, between treble cone and cardies you're covered for park, groomers and some good inbounds steeps

queenstown is definitely bigger but way more touristy. Its a lot of drunk aussies to be honest. Wanaka is way more chill, better place to spend a long period of time. If you're looking for jobs in town and not at a resort though, QT will obviously have more options. Quite a few houses/hostels for rent in wanaka still though

3. Whats the cost of living/money making Situation Between Wanaka and Queenstown?

queenstown is probably a bit more expensive, way more so if you're going out all the time.

4. Where else in NZ/Australia should I be considering for spending a winter?

South Island is expensive but sick skiing between Cardrona and Treble Cone

I've only skied Ruapehu but from pictures and video I would say Cardrona is easily the best As far as Australia, Perisher really stepped up hard last year.

Turoa is sick though, longer ski season than down south. Park isn't crazy but still pretty solid. Also a lot of sick in bounds terrain. If you ever hike up to the summit there and dhe crater in good snow, you'll fall in love.

Ohakune was pretty reasonably priced for living imo. I was paying 6/650 a month.

I was trying to do a season on the south island this summer and work at The remarks, but my visa fell through and no more NZ for me, at least at the moment.

If you can get a job before you go, that's not a bad idea. You'll need a work visa though. The work holiday is super easy to get . Can only use it once but it's good for a year and free. You'll also have to get an IRD number for taxing and all that stuff. Not that bad though.

There's really only a handful of places to go in each, so it's not too bad for choosing. Not like the east coast in the states where there are 3million ski areas for every state.


what kind of skiing are you looking to do?

I mean I've only skied in AUS but Perisher and Buller out there are really nice, get good snow, and Perisher has a really nice park , if that helps.

Steep & deep is what I really like but skiing is skiing.

Definitely Cardrona if you want to ski park and pipe and it's much easier access from Wanaka as the road between Queenstown and Cardrona can be slow. The north island resorts have longer seasons but can be closed for multiple days in a row and expect to ski only 4-5 days out of 7 due to bad weather. South Island ski fields have way more favourable weather conditions.
If you are wanting a resort job they are mostly all taken by May but you can still pick up other work in town.

It's a longer season. The snow seems to be a bit different though, and the better parks are on the south island.
