funkynuggzi got my pass pulled at keystone, was on my way too the park and some guy cut this girl off and they both ate shit pretty bad, all i said was "damn" next thing did notice here comes ski patrol and stops me and started screaming at me because i said damn. he asked for my pass and told me i had too call ski patrol too see when i can get it back. ever since that happen i jus been going too copper.
DeepskierTo the people who think its OPs fault fuck off both sides were open he was causing no one else harm and previous year offense shouldn't count and it does in driving because driving is serious and you can do real damage so it doesn't apply
DominatorJacquesSkiing is serious. People die all the time and get broken up every way from Sunday when someone slams into them.

DominatorJacquesYou funny. Read the above's again. You are saying driving is serious. So you are implying skiing is not serious.
Skiing is serious.
Deepskieryeah but if I understood that poorly crafted sentence, then that where you still have no authority to bitch at OP.
keefskiMy friend and I were at keystone last week trying to get from easy street to the A51 lift. As you may know, there is now a rope/fence blocking the cutoff down to the lift. There was also a yellow jacket sitting down there, but we noticed that he was busy writing someone else up and we decided to go. He saw us (pretty much expected that he would) and we too got pulled over and we were written up. This was my first warning on any pass ever. It wasn't so much that I was miffed that we were written up, but the fact that it's closed off in the first place. Keystone boasts 60 acres of park (including easy street) all accessible by a park-specific lift. They have no right to say that if you can't get to the park lift from part of the park. I asked him what the reason is that it is roped off, and he said that if it were opened (like it used to be, I might add) it would cause head on collisions with skiers coming from easy street and the alley. If that would be an issue, then why not just put up slow signs and/or a rope maze from easy street and instead of having a yellow jacket looking for people to write up, put him there to control skier traffic and slow people down before they start on that last stretch down to the lift?
californiagrownI had a pass at a vail resort for 3 years and never once had a problem. not once. I skied in fear quite a bit at this vail owned resort, but it was largely the pucker factor of the terrain that scared me. Whenever i was on a groomer runout going mach loony, i would throw a few quick sharp carves, slow down to less than 40mph and i never once had a problem. Maybe its cause i wasnt skiing in the backseat, sliding my turns perhaps?
K-Dot.First of all, I kind of feel like you're playing devils advocate with your responses so I won't take it too seriously. However, I think this whole yellow jacket business is a somewhat serious issue. I don't slide my turns, I grew up skiing the tetons and am a pretty solid skier. Only recently in the last few years have I gotten into park and it is incredibly fascinating to me how people treat park skiers.
Prior to me getting into park, I never thought much of park skiers. I didn't dislike them, but my perception of them was that they were intimidating and very exclusive of others, especially newcomers. Fast forward a year or two and I've gotten into the scene a lot more. As is evident in many of the comments in this thread, people generally think less of and generalize when it comes to park skiers. The people who tend to feel most entitled to pass judgement are those who are ignorant about park skiing.
Whether it is a pretentious dad on vacation or a yellow jacket at a Vail resort, park skiers are unfairly profiled and discriminated against on the hill. Many, many park skiers are the best skiers at the mountain, period. I don't care what the current stigma is. I've seen my fair share of kids who pizza between k feds just like the rest of this site. However, everyone should be treated equal regardless of what they do.
I don't feel like Vail has upheld this at all. Sure, make the argument that I get a great deal on a pass so I should quit bitching about petty issues like this. This still isn't right though. I shouldn't have to live in fear of my pass being pulled for something so minor, especially knowing that they have quotas to meet each month. When money hungry corporations feel this controlling, it should be the concern of everyone. Without us they are nothing, and if we are just to ignore the blatant profiling that goes on then we are part of the problem.
I'm glad to see these types of threads on NS. Bring to light what's wrong in the ski industry and don't stop. Change can only occur with information.
californiagrownI guess I don't understand, why you don't understand, that a slow sign means slow down, and so does a yellow jacket.
I totally agree about the park skier bit, but park skiers are profiled for a readom- they are predominantly the young 16-28 year old male demographic known for risk taking. And they tend to ski faster than average. They are easy to spot as opposed to the gaper who dresses the same regardless of age.
Bottom line is this: as a low value customer, you gotta play their game. Don't like it? Raise your value. You know the golden rule, right?
And FYI, I skied at Kirkwood which is a far, far cry from the typical Vail owned resort haha.
K-Dot.I understand that a slow sign means slow, and I do slow down near them because I'm aware of the consequences around them. However, that doesn't mean you won't get flagged down by the yellow jackets. It is completely up to their discretion to decide if what you were doing was against the rules or not. If they're going to treat it like I'm driving and they're a cop, then at least use a speed gun or something better than just an arbitrary slow sign as reason to pull a pass.
My issues with them stereotyping and profiling park skiers at a place like Park City is that they use them for advertisements like no other, then turn around and make you feel unwanted if you step foot out of the park. I can't blame the guys that ski for them because they're trying to make money anyway they can. I blame Vail for putting on this facade that park skiers are of value to them at all.
I understand the system and how I am the lowest on the totem pole, but why does there have to be a social order in SKIING? I should feel like I am treated equally on the slopes, just like I should in everyday life.
That being said, I don't think Vail is some evil corporation hell bent on ruining skiing. They do a lot of things right too. Just I firmly believe that their method of rule enforcement is over the top and unfair at times.
joe_dirtHey NS i didn't want to cause all this fighting amongst everybody i talked to people at vail resorts and got my punishment down to two weeks and a class. I still hate vail and would rather ski somewhere else but when the snow falls you gotta ski there huh? well thanks for the advice it was cool to get everyones input.
THANKS!
DominatorJacquesWatch the first 1:15 of this video. The reason I did not follow him there is because I did not want to duck the rope. Notice what I did.

frickindarnI think it is dumb you got a ticket. But I also think it's a smart decision to rope that area off. Do you really want a bunch of kids who cant hit boxes really mobbing onto some of the largest features in that park? If you leave easy street and just duck into the trees it's not roped off. You could've easily avoided it. (I am still bummed you got busted though homie.)
CoreyTrevormaybe they realized they fucked up and they have a big suit on their hands if they dare pull a pass
Brocka_FlockaHey Matt
keefskiUnfortunately, that's exactly what we did. We came around and went through the trees but he still saw us anyway. It might be a good idea in general to rope it off from jerries, but they could put up a sign that says expert terrain only or something. It just bums me out because it's such a fun park to dick around in
CoreyTrevorWe went through a gate and did a hike at a Vail resort. My buddy triggered an avalanche, it became a big shit show. They told us they would probably be pulling our passes because we were skiing in "closed" terrain (although they didn't yet have ropes up...). Needless to say, my pass works and maybe they realized they fucked up and they have a big suit on their hands if they dare pull a pass, but then again maybe someday I'll drive 2 hours to Vail only to find out they finally did pull my pass...
DingoSeanThat's what you get for skiing at a Vail run resort...
Story Time!
Two years ago, a friend of mine from Oregon came down to visit since our home mountain up there was closed for the season due to absolutely zero snow. We went to Northstar because I had two free passes given to me from a friend. Before lunchtime even hit, she had been booted from the mountain for, I shit you not, "skiing recklessly too many times" IE: she came out of the terrain park, and skied down the remaining 400 feet to the speed fence switch.
She did it once, they gave her a warning that they made entirely unclear to her (they just told her she was skiing recklessly and told her to be more careful - no explanation other than that, and they weren't issuing the yellow tickets at the time) she did it a second time about an hour 1/2 later when we were returning from the top of the mountain to ski the lookout runs. The same guy was there and he gave her an instaban, pulled her pass and told her she could no longer ride the lifts that day.
This was all very confusing, and at first we both tried to be civil with the dude who was pulling her pass, trying to figure out what was the issue and make up for it, so we could keep skiing, but the dude powertripped us hard, called his superior over, who powertripped us more when we started raising our voice in protest. Then, while pointing his finger at me like he was some kinda cop, told me he'd pull my pass too if I didn't relax. She cursed them out hard, set off for the base village, and I followed. Both of us were entirely ticked off.
They yelled at us to download on the gondola as we went down. We both flipped them off and continued down the death ribbon trail to the base. Another fucking dude at the base of the mountain then tried to pull us over "Hey, I need to have a chat with you two". At that point we fucking lost it and high tailed it to the Bus pickup (you have to take a bus from the parking lot to your car at Northstar... no such thing as normal parking there)
Absolutely 110% Vail can go fuck itself right in the rectum.
californiagrownSo you were warned to not ski switch down runs? Then proceeded to ski switch down runs and were caught, and had your pass pulled. And now youre angry? seriously? Grow the fuck up.

frickindarnAt the end of easy street after you leave the yellow gated off areas it's not roped off. You can still make it to he chair without ducking anything or breaking any rules. Also yesterday was the first time a yellow jacket didn't give me a high five and it was total fucking horse shit. They're up to something.
DingoSeanSeriously? read the post, dingdong.
SHE not me, was warned to not ski recklessly. NOT A SINGLE MENTION OF SKIING SWITCH BEING CONSIDERED BY THEM TO BE 'RECKLESS' WAS MADE TO HER.
When she did it again, unbeknownst to her, it was because she skied switch down a 'crowded area'. We tried to argue that she wasn't told the first time that skiing switch was considered reckless. She kinda just took the warning to stay away from other skiers and stay slow, so she shrugged it off that she was going too fast. The second time she was off to the side more and skiing slower. She was at least 30 feet from any other skiers and it still happened. We tried to explain the situation, which, to most sane people, would have been legitimate but this guy decided to be a nazi about it.
IN ANY CASE, skiing switch does not mean you're out of control and reckless, and nobody would have a 2 strikes rule on the matter. No other area management would pull this crap.
californiagrownIt was the general "you", and if you couldn't put two and two together about the switch skiing then damn you both must have just had a brainfart.
Ski areas are like golf courses- some areas you can get away with joyriding the carts, drinking heavily, and wearing tanktops. Other areas your shirt has to stay tucked in and you have to be more serious or the Marshall will kick you out. You went to flatstar, you knew what you were getting into.

Profahoben_212Ski resorts shouldn't be like golf courses. That's not what free skiing is about. We aren't the kind of people that like to tuck our shirts in. We don't want to be serious. Skiing isnt serious. Skiing should just be fun.
californiagrownAnd you dont belong at the deer valleys and Vail's of the world, just like you dont belong at the $100+ courses.
I agree with you about what skiing should be. I also think golf is meant to be fun and not serious. But i understand what course/resort im going to and the demographic/customs of the place and i act accordingly- its still fun and lets me avoid the major buzzkill of getting booted. Frankly, i rarely ski or golf at the pretentious, uptight areas because A) theyre more expensive, and B) id rather ski how and where i want. But when i do go to those places, i understand that other people love the atmosphere and why would i want to ruin their day?
Uptight, rich folks who want skiing to be a 1% experience have just as much right to have fun as you do. If they started trying to force their culture onto you at Targhee, or kirkwood, or altabird etc, would you be stoked? Similarly, by condoning switch skiing outside of the park, skiing much faster than other skiers, and a loose interpretation of rules, you are forcing your culture onto those people at flatstar, vail, deer valley etc.
Respect the culture of the resort.
Profahoben_212I see what you are saying. But if we were to have conformed to culture...we would still be zipper lining moguls and praising fis.
Sometimes culture needs to be challenged....I don't see why the doctor ripping corduroy should have any less fun because some park skier is skiing switch down the same run. Neither is forcing their culture on the other...but maybe some people will see a free skier and start doing it. Woops.
