Clean shaven shins

I notice this every season. After about 2 weeks of riding every day, there is a huge patch of missing hair on my shins. There is no redness, rubbing or pain involved, just a clean shaven lower leg. I can post pics on request.
I hope I am not the only one...

You have been visited by the ski boot elf, he shaves your legs while you ski. The harder you afterbang, the closer the shave.

I get a similar situation when I get a new pair of work boots. Your body just isn't used to the continuous rubbing in this "new" location. It will come back slowly.

Im not totally clean shaven because i probably am much hairier than you. But yea there is a paych of thinning. Also whenever i my ski day is ogre there is usually some leg hairs sprinkled atop my boots

Happens to me every year, come January/February I have a patch on my lower shin and another on my calf missing, doesn't come back until the season ends

This is the first year that I have not had this "issue" and I'm guessing it is due to a lower volume / tighter fitting boot. I've always had the leg hair chaff, it's normal

i have it where my phone rubs on my leg, no big deal, make it a badge like a goggle tan.

I think all your boots are too loose, I've always had mad tight boots cause I can feel the ski better and I have never had this problem

Bro. I just sat here laughing for 5 mins. I actually shave half my calves to just avoid dealing with the pulled out hair and added shin bang, I just convinced a few of my friends to do it as well.

I got some skin taken off my shins last week. It's been 5 days and there's still some rawness goin on.


I have some bad boot fit problems though.This has been my life the past few years.

Actually, its not even a problem. Being hungry in the backcountry without food is a problem. The clean shaven shin is caused by the hair getting caught in the socks by the expansion and contraction of the material and the rubbing under pressure when riding aggressively forward in your boot. Its more of a sign you are going everything right.

The biggest flaw of full tilts is the slack feeling and the bad pressure points on the ankle tendons that keeps me from being too tight around the shin. They are perfect in the park, but you have to suffer if you are doing anything else. At least the heel and feet are very well secured.

I ski in race boots cause I can't ski in anything else, grew up racing, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I do this as well haha....I know where the little 2 inch strip is that I lose hair on....so first day of the season I just do a couple passes with a razor. Easier than having the hair tugged on all day.

yea me too. It recovers but the problem is that in the long term it will stop growing hair there. I've seen many 60+ years old skiers with no hair on the bottom halh of their shins.

I think shaving them during the ski season might be a good solution. That way you do not remove the hair from its root and it doesn't debilitate itself.
