Casual Winter boots/Shoes

After a straight week of temps pretty much staying below 0F, I think its time I invest in a decent pair of winter boots. I don't want something big and clunky (I hate thick soles). I'd honestly prefer something that just has proper insulation and waterproofing, but just looks like a hightop sneaker or causal boot.

I came across the Nike Air Force One Duckboot, but It's kinda expensive and seems to be one of those rare nike shoes that are impossible to find the style you like in your size.




Anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm gonna disregard completely what you said and recommend the matte black timberlands. Solid waterproof boot that will last years. The matte black is also the only model that looks nothing like a boot if you pull your pants over. Could get away with rocking them to a formal occasion and nobody would now.

Other than that check out some winterized Vans. Those are dope.

I know you say you hate thick soles, but I really think you mean you like sneakers and dope looking shoes. Just trust me when I say that you will grow up one day, maybe a day very soon, and realize you are super pissed you payed so much for kids shoes in adult sizes.

Open your mind to some quality boots in styles you aren't quite sure about yet, and maybe a thicker sole too, and you can get a boot that will last you for decades and look attractive in nearly any outfit. They'll keep you happy for a long time if you go with something more classic/timeless. On top of that, you can avoid some made in China sneakers you convincer yourself were boots.

They might not look dope on the shelf, but try them on anyway and you may surprise yourself.

Look at up the Vans mountain editions, I got a pair last winter and they are my favorite shoes. They're insulated and 3M weather treated. I'd post a pic but I still dont know how to properly embed lol. Here's the link. definite recommend

I hate thicker soles because of the way it feels walking around, not the style. I'm also a big fan of flat sole for walking around on ice (and where I live there is ice everywhere for at least 3 months out of the year). I have no problem with a nice heavy duty boot (I'd love a pair of redwings) but that's not what I'm looking to wear every day.

After all your ranting you don't even post a boot to look at?

I had a pair of Foresakes when I lived in J-Hole and they were the bomb. Waterproof, warm, grippy, good looking too. Id wear em to go sledding, play in the snow, quaff. They were a solid winter boot for the $65 they cost.

I wasn't ranting, just encouraging you to look at some different styles because I bought some shoes I hate just a few years ago in the same situation. I'd love some Redwings too, no idea if the heritage boots are warm though.

I had a pair of those too, they are super warm. Mine just did not fit no matter how much I wanted them to.

I think I may have bought them off of you if my memories serves me. They went to the tops of mtns, to the valleys below, mtn biked and dirt biked. Great shoes, I just had to retire them after blowing the side out in them.

fuck ya man, that's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. I remember seeing that brand at some point and think that was in the back of my head when I made this thread.

Any guidance on sizing (do they run big or small)? I typically buy 12.5 but they only have half sizes up to 11.5.

Id say go 12 and youll be good. If you can only find a 13 that would work too, it would just be a little loose for me for hiking longer distances.

+1 for Foresake. Love my pair, couldn't be happier with their performance and fit. Also probably the warmest pair of footwear I've ever had. Can't explain it and don't need to.

Sorry to disregard everything you said, but I have never been proud to wear a boot until I bought a pair of Danner Pronghorns

Just a badass, warm, comfortable, sharp looking boot that costs a little extra but will never do you wrong

My feet never get cold unless my core temp is super low and im shivering.

that said, the best shoes ive ever had for ice and slick snow are vans slip ons or eras. Boots are fucking death on ice for me.

I ended up going with the 13. I'll mainly just be wearing these around town and to load up my sleds. I have perpetual toe bang in the winter so it will be nice to have some wiggle room before I shove my foot into a cramped ski boot.

I have the regular, non waterproof version i just put waterproofing on them for winter and they're the best winter boots i've had. done big winter hikes with them and they do awesome. the soles arent the grippiest but your foot is super close to the ground, the thin sole lets you feel everything so you know how much grip you got. plus they're super flexible so your feet can move a lot which keeps them warm especially if you wear thick wool socks, my feet get cold super easy and this has been my warmest winter shoe.

Look at these leather shoes they're waterproof, sportive and there are different colors of them. Moreover, these boots are not expensive and very comfortable.Recently, I've bought them,too so, I recommend to my own experience.

nikes are awesome, though I prefer smth more affordable... and I bought these last week. It was my first purchase online! so far I am satisfied, and I am glad that I paid reasonable money ;) quality seems awesome and feels really comfy :D

These might be a little too much boot-like for you, but they're my around town boot for when it's snowy and wet out. Super comfortable, waterproof, and built well.
