Been noticing lately that a lot of NS'ers (like a disproportionately large amount) seem to be HS seniors and off to college next (this) year.

It's the last day for RD applications for most schools, so this thread is for those attending freshman year of college in the upcoming school year.

elindeGot into Dartmouth ED, so looks like I'll be headed to Hanover next year.

I'd love to see if any other NS'ers will be '20s there next year or any that already attend, because half the reason I applied was for the ski culture (I've wanted to go there since I was about 11). I already have a few buddies there, but it never hurts to find some new ones, especially those who ski.

I've heard this several times and I can't disagree with it more. That's just a terrible way of thinking, man. Life doesn't automatically suck the day you graduate from high school.

More kids need to do what they love instead of getting sucked into shitty office jobs that take 6 years of college to get hired. Yes, high school is nice because parents pay for food and housing, but proper planning can lead to one hell of a life. There is no need to go to fucking ivy league schools when kids have $20 in their bank accounts. I don't see the need to get a really nice job, get locked in the golden handcuffs, and say "I'll go skiing in five years".

I'm not even planning on going to college until I discover a job that involves something that I like doing. I might do some firefighting in the summers and ski bum in the winters. High school is only the prime of life for people who weren't prepared.

If high school is the prime of my life, I should just end it right now, why keep living?

Just got accepted into University of Alberta for forestry, I wanted to go to University of British Columbia but couldn't afford it cost wise...

There's a small hill near the uni but Idk how good the park is there but I'm hoping to snag a job there for free riding.

I'm going to Bowdoin in Maine, applied ED2. Pretty stoked, though both Sunday and Sugarloaf are 2+ hours away. I applied to mostly other liberal arts schools in the NESCAC, big ups to deforestation, Midd was my #2

So for me it's going to come down to the following schools:

Binghamton (would go there for room and board only based on the STEM program-the cheapest option I have)

RPI (got a lot of scholarship $-would be doable-would be making a lot of $ right out of college)

Boston University (also got a lot of scholarship $-right in Boston-great location)

Notre Dame (it's Notre Dame...)

Any thoughts/experiences would be great. Leaning heavily towards Boston.

I'm trying to decide between going to CU Boulder and going to UBC in Vancouver. I got into a few others, waitlisted a couple and denied from a few, but these are my current favorite picks. Any input on my decision? Any NSers planning to attend or already going?

I'd rather go to UBC. CU Boulder isn't all that great for skiing from what I hear, but if you go there I can hook you up with my girlfriends sisters digits. She's going down there to play soccer.

College isn't all skiing. Boulder is lit, amazing campus, and I think their academics in some fields are underrated. Great overall school

I toured there, stayed with a friend, and loved it. I got into the honors program and got a lot of scholarship money luckily so the prices between UBC and CU are pretty comparable. I definitely love the campus, the social scene and found the academics to be quite good, but I think the academics at UBC may be a little better in the field I'm going into. I'm looking at studying International Relations/Poli Sci for what it's worth. Any further input would be great, I'm looking to decide sooner than later this week.

This is completely wrong. I had an awesome time in high school, don't get me wrong, but college is seriously so much better. You get exposed to so many more people and so many more opportunities to do fun shit. At least that's how it's been for me..

My good friend decided on CU today! He choose it over UMD, and he got into UMD's business school which is one of the best in the nation. If you got money from Boulder, that is where I'd go if I were you. Maybe talk to your high school's college counselor

You should be fine. Northeastern, BU, BC, etc. all have ski clubs, and there is a large number of post-grads in the area who ski as well.

I live right next to Boston College and get up skiing a good 40-50 days a year at Loon and Sunday River. There are definitely lots of skiers around the area, maybe not as much as other places or schools, but you definitely can get a lot of skiing in around this area.

I decided on University of British Columbia yesterday, pretty excited to be heading west soon, one more month of high school and I'm done. If anyone is going as well or you guys know any skiers there, let me know, it would be dope to go into school knowing at least a couple kids.

Loon is a solid 2.5 hours, Sunday River is a bit longer. You can do day trips, but they're LONG days and hard on your wallet(lots of gas). Some schools have ski clubs that rent houses for the season, but you will also meet people who have houses at ski areas as well.

For close skiing, you have Nashoba (No-Snowba), Wachusetts (meh), Jimney Peak, Ski Bradford, and Blue Hills. Jimney and Wachusetts are your biggest, the other three are tiny. TBH, it all depends on the snow year.

I have lots of friends in college in the area and that's most of what I know about skiing from my experience here.
