Verts (Jermey Jones)

Heard really good things from a couple people I tour with, will probably invest in some next season.

Sweet good to hear. I ended up just ordering a pair. Hate to spend that amount of money on a piece of equipment with such a specific use, but the times I am hiking up a pow filled coulior I'll be happy I did.

That website also has such a huge amount of dope BC edits, definitely bookmarking.

Lots of big name riders use these and I haven't heard anything but good reviews about them. You can see Jermey Jones and crew climb straight up pow filled lines in the Himalayas using these and without them I don't think he would have been able to ski the lines he did.

Point being pow is awesome but post holing sucks, and there are few products out there that fill this void.

Finally got a chance to use these in the Wasatch today. Wow... these make a world of difference. It's insane how easy it was to boot up a coulior.

The test was a 1000' W facing chute varying from 35 degrees to 40. The chute had a melt freeze crust and then 6-8" of unconsolidated below before a firmer base. I've done my fair share of booting and what surprised me the most was how stable of a platform they "punch" out, with minimal sinking.

They really shine when things get to 40 degrees or above. It's laughable how easy it is compared to just booting regularly.

PROS:
- Super lightweight. I don't even notice them on my feet.
- Transition time is minimal. Just slap em on, tighten, and go.
- Stable feel and kick out steps with ease for the rest of the crew.

CONS:
- Plastic durability. I few times I hit shallow rocks and the wear is definitely noticeable after one use.
- Price

Just wanted to give props to a small company! The owner came by and personally delivered them to my house. He was just as stoked as I was that I wanted to use his product.

Any discussion like this needs to include the Billy Goat tech ascent plates.

Metal, $70 cheaper, and they work as part of the crampons I'd already want to have on? Far better plan if you ask me.

these are what I was thinking when I read this thread. buddy of mine uses them and swears by them.

Nice those Billy Goats look sweet! Crampon plus platform for cheaper, that's a deal. Verts appear to have a good deal more surface area, I would be interested to see how the two products compare.

I personally, don't think I would ever need crampons for what I bought my verts for. I would rather just have them as a separate piece of equipment. To me... when you need crampons it's hard pack and exactly when you don't need things like Verts, but to each their own.

It all comes down to preference anyone who spends a good deal of time in the backcountry has their own kit that they prefer to get the job done.
