Winter Storm Goliath

So it started with snow around 11pm and transitioned to sleet at 6:30 this morning. Rain starting at 9am and forecast to be going until 9pm. then another bit of snow until midnight. for a snow total of 5" snow and .5" ice

whats going on in your town/is travel for better snow worth it.

Central Wisconsin got like 7" of snow. I'm going to be at the hill an hour before it opens.


7" of snow in Wisconsin = 36" of snow out west.

This shit is a big deal.

These winter storms that they name like "goliath" and hype up to no end are absurd. Its just the media influencing people for the most part. If you think about it...who the hell watches the weather channel anymore? No one I know; maybe some do. Its all about ratings my friend.

"Goliath" dropped about 6 inches max in southern vt and its now raining/sleeting.

What a joke.

I watch weather channel when we're forecast to get a storm, but this one was bull. They started off by saying we were getting 12-18, and then we got 4. They over-sell everything and act like an inch of snow is going to close every road in the country and that theres a state of emergency and everyones going to die.

It pisses me off

Exactly. You watch it when we're forecasted to get a storm....aka for the ratings. They hype things up to no end. I stick to NOAA for the weather.

Weathermen best job in the world...you can be drastically wrong all the time and still be "good" at your job.

This so called "storm", was like 1-3 inches of slush for the majority of the northeast. That being said temps look pretty good for the remainder of the week, so hopefully some mountains will be expanding by the weekend.

IM in MN and we got the first part of the storm before it headed east and they said up to a 12". My area got 3". Areas literally 30 mins or less away got like 6". I don't understand. We got 2x less than they said and my area 2x less then others. BULLSHIT.

Media and ratings blah blah blah yes very true, but meteorology is an extremely difficult science. i know some very smart people who took meteorology classes and they said it was brutal

not many jobs do you have to predict the future almost perfectly...haha

Ugg im leaving to canada tomorow for four days. i went to nubs nob yesterday and had to drive through the snowstorm back to grand rapids, it was scary as hell. are you skiing today?

I was lucky enough to get a couple of free tickets for this season and it doesn't look like I'm going to use them which sucks, Magic is a fun mountain

It is a fun mountain- when theres snow. If we get snow later in the season, definitely come use them. Theres a lot of great trails few know about.
