Getting VHS footage to a computer

I found a pretty sweet old camcorder in my garage with all the fixings, but it only uses VHS tapes. Is there any way to get the footage from a VHS tape on to a computer for editing?

You have to use a FireWire port. Most computers have them, its how people get VX footy into their computers.. Then again I'm not sure if VHS uses FireWire. Another option is take it to like CVS or some photo store and have them make a disk of the footy

I have a thing my mom got for getting old baby videos off of our vhs tapes. It is a USB drive on one side and then the three red yellow and whit cables you can plug into a VCR it came with a program for exporting it onto a computer and makes it really easy

Firewire didn't even exist when VHS cameras were invented. That being said, it has rca output which has been said can be converted to USB to capture.

Composite (Red, White, Yellow) to USB should work. Most are under $10. Downloading is different for each OS but theres probably a few youtube tutorials out there.

RCA to USB is a lie. has never worked for me.

beware when buying cheap easycaps from china, I bought one and all the software on the disk was bunk and it didn't work.

Not to take over the thread but does anyone know how to get footage from a CD to and make it a mp4 file? I have a cd burned with some footage and i can not get it on my computer to edit it. the cd is the only copy of the videos also
