Little rant about PC

CalvaryCougarSo I'm currently in Park City after we planned a trip out when they decided to merge the canyons and park city. I was thinking awesome, like a ton of runs and a bunch of parks. Well I get here on the 26th of December not expecting a full park but at least a little bit. I think surely they would have something set up at the canyons since it when it was its own resort they had a park set up before when I've visited around this time. I find out today that there is ONLY 1 park open??? 3 Kings at PC, and NOTHING at the canyons. I ride the mid-west and im pretty sure we have had as many features as what ive come to find AT THE LARGEST RESORT IN NORTH AMERICA. Whats the deal? Am I over reacting?

Quit bitching that park is so fun. Even a month ago it was dope af. Most places in this country don't even have a jump set up no matter how great the weather is at this point. PC is constantly changing the set up right now and you should just enjoy it. There's a fucking 45 footer up for christs sake. Yes you're over reacting.

The whole "Largest Resort in America" thing is a gimmick. Literally 2 intermediate runs were added in the connection, and since you could still get both resorts last year on Epic anyway, this means there is almost no difference with the new gondola in place (especially regarding the parks, as they are all far away from the connection point). It's a novelty.

Beside that, park skiers are low on Vail's list of priorities. I've been told that they are quite low on staff, which partly explains the relatively late openings of much of the terrain, but also explains why more effort hasn't been put into the parks.

I agree with you, it's a bummer. Vail just sees us as a bunch of hooligans who won't spend $50 on lunch, rent full ski packages from their shops, or ride "safely" around their real target demographic: A: the accountant who skis at Breck twice a season and decides to come out here for New Year's cuz his pass works, and B: the rich first-timer that drops hundreds of dollars at the resort every day just because they can. Neither of these people care in the slightest about the parks, and until they do, parks will be the last priority. They have to cater to the lowest common denominator. Shit's like Disneyland.

I worked on the Canyons side from November 2015 to January 2016 snowmaking and Vail literally doesnt give 2 shits about the park or even the mountain in general. The Whole time i was there was just get the runs open that will connect the Park City base area to the Canyons Village. Vail only cares about making money and they know the park skiers dont have alot of it. They market to the rich and stupid because they know they can get away with running a shitty mountain and still make money. The fact that they will not be putting up the iconic Kings Crown park is absolutely beyond me and i was hoping Vail wouldn't treat Park City like just another place to make even more money. Whatever happened to ski resorts that where they for everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves and not just to make money?

Since you makes the snows, you might almost grasp the amount of time, money and effort that goes into building a mega park like kings crown that hardly gets used. But since you are rookie maker of the snows shovel bitch you might not get that.

PS. Same size jumps next to pipe. Better place, better snowmaking, better everything.

That is a common perception though. I'd like to see you expand on that so we might gain more perspective here.

^ He means that in terms of early season openings, it's more important for them to open groomers and intermediate upper mountain terrain than it is to work on the parks (which makes sense for them, keeping the day pass people interested). Once everything is open, however, you're right, a LOT of effort goes into building, maintaining, and refreshing parks.
