McLSSo for a while now my local hill (valthorens) has privatized the only 4 features (a decent doubleable kicker, a dfdf box, flat tube and rail, not even side entry) in the park (we have extremly little snow) for a "pro camp". So fair enough some legit pros are riding there, but also a freestyle junior club (biggest tricks 5s) and a few "pro" who seem to be doing a lot of straight slides and nospins...
Anyways, went there, polite and shit, asked if i could drop in just to check the speed, and this dude is like "no man it's closed to non pros and non fis licenses" im like "fuckdat im better than half the people here, and there's only like 20 riders in total..." (bare in mind this is the only opened park in the whole 3vallees due to little snow).
So then another guy comes up "are you pro? No? Then get the fuck out".
Like wtf people. I would get it if the features were huge but they're far from it, and there isnt a lot of riders there. So yeah, cunt ass pro not letting me ride the only park out here. Such bullshit.
JuliusJThis thread reminds me of Pussy Pro Skiers. People make fun of him and then turns out he turns out to be a pro skier years later haha.
Swandog7Lol the link takes me to backcountry for a $119 Patagonia quarter zip
McLSa decent doubleable kicker.

dan1080Hi, I'm new to park and really looking to learn, whats this?!??!???
skiermanI didn't think it was possible but the term "pro" has become more generic.... my god...
Titus69Since when did we need a fucking "license" to be pro?
johnblazeas soon as FIS gets involved.
S.J.WI just wanna know what would happen if you tried to poach the B&E course. That would be funny as fuck
UPSIDEDOWNDICKthey are probably the kind of "pros" who pay several thousand dollars a year to be on the "pro team"
McLSYeah i tried to blend in at first, but it's a small group, thet all know each other
Could be that they did pay, in which case it's still super lame not to let another freeskier hit a few runs knowing it's the only park out here. But they could not be paying at all: what most parks do in here is they set up bunch of nets and "reserved for comps" "only pro" "non licenses forbidden" signs around the park lane for bigger features so that gapers dont come and fuck themselves. But anyone can still technically go, just dissuasion.
It was a way to ask if i could hit it without sounding like i wasnt allowed to. I would of speed checked first anyways (50 feet jump)
casualOf course the park has been privately paid for.....resorts don't build and maintain features just for "pros" just because. Runs with gates for race training that are closed for public are rented out by clubs and teams and they pay big bucks to the ski areas to do so. Use your brain.
"Can I drop in just to check the speed?".....that doesn't make even a little bit of sense, and you're shocked that they blew you off? Come on man. And your thread title sucks.

McLShaha wtf long time no see
mishracerYer man I was at the Val T park the other day and got the same vibe. The "pros" had a fairly interesting standard going on.
EbolaJust put on a nice wig with alot of flow and wear a triple xl tall T or jibbrish. Have your friend follow you around saying ur name asking for your autograph and asking how you won the monster tour in 08. If they say your not pro just challenge them to a game of slivish and pay off the ref.
freestyler540I didnt read every reply, but I think of lot of you are missing the main reason:
Insurance. in other word: MMMMMOOOOOOONNNNNEEEEYYYYYYYYYY!
I was a Canadian federation acrobatic member and you have to pay premiums to be a member to make sure you are covered when things turn ugly in training or in competition. These tricks are actually really regulated, they have to qualify the flips and doubles (or not on dubs) on water ramps before doing them on snow. They did a great job on regulating safety in the sport, and the fis is still doing an outstanding job today.
Now these features are larger than any private insurance will be willing to cover, or so expensive that ski centers cant dish out the cash. They loan a section of the mountain to the FIS or an insured skiing body and one of the points in the contract is separate coverage in case of injury.
Ever since the rise in lawsuits for profit was on the rise in the US, they have to tone everything down to avoid the negligence cause.
Solutions? Well, I can see 2. You join these competitive teams and get access to them or you take out extra insurance for yourself and get it approved by the site managers, resort management and coaches on site.
dbchiliI went to Val thorens today. The public park setup was pathetic. Lack of snow is not an excuse when they've managed to cover ever other run with snow guns, it's just lazy
I get you point but I think your anger is misdirected
