Tips for follow cams w/ SLR?

so there is probably already a thread for this but im having trouble getting the focus to work right when im taking video of friends. I have a Nikon D3300 and I have tried using all manual focus and I have tried using autofocus and I cant get a clear video of the skier! if you have any tips I would really appreciate it!

Sounds like you need a lens specific for shooting follow focus. You're gunna want a wide lens or a fisheye. Rokinon 8mm and Opteka 6.5mm are both great fisheyes, but I don't know to much about wide lenses. Just do some research and watch some videos, you'll figure it out.

focus at infinity then try to get as close and as dangerous as possible to your rider

Focus at infinity. If your lens has markings you'll see it on the lens and just line up the infinity sign with the marker

I have the opteka 6.5 and mostly use it for follow can . It is easy to keep in focus but you have to get super scarily close with it if you want the footage to look very good. Unless you want some hair raising follow cams or footage where you feel to far away from the skier I would get somethong longer.
