NS kayakers

Tryna buy a kayak. Around 600$ would be nice, just going to use it for recreation in slow rivers and lakes. Would like one around 10 feet long, and I'm about 6'2" so can't have one made for small people. Would like durability, and somewhat light but that doesn't need to be a major factor. Also a comfy seat. Help me out, thanks

I would look on local classifieds for a used boat. I found a gently used 12 foot perception with a paddle for 250

Might be kind of cliche but we've gotten all 3 of ours from dicks sporting goods and they are nice for what you are looking for. Very light and easy to carry (I'm 5'2 so I needed a light one to be able to carry it and load it onto my car lol). Potomac is the brand I have. You can easily make a place on the side to clip a fishing rod too!

I have an Ascend FS10 (http://m.basspro.com/Ascend-FS10-SitIn-Angler-Kayak-Camo/product/14072306364312/) from basspro and I love it. Can get in all the tights spots and fits in the bed of my truck. I use it to duck hunt and have taken it in some rough areas with no complaints. If I was to get another one I would get a FS12 since longer boats track better.

Let's make our own thread. That's why I came here. I haven't white water kayaked in a few years but it was super fun and scary.

sit inside or sit on top? I would say just get an old whitewater boat if you are looking to get more into rivers later. Whitewater boats kinda suck for paddling long flatwater stretches though because they do not have a keel and like to spin instead of going straight.

either way, buy a used boat. $400 can get a pretty nice used whitewater boat, not sure about rec/flatwater boats but it's probably similar. Save your money for a decent paddle, nrs straps, splash top, ect.

not sure where you live, but the used market is usually kinda slow this time of year. picks up in march/april.

The longer the kayak the faster it will go. The shorter the kayak the slower it will go. They both have pros and cons. The longer kayak is going to be less stable but the shorter kayak the more stable it will be. I have a 13 ft kayak and I can stand up and fish out of it.
