Anheuser-Busch acquired Breckenridge Brewing

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Anheuser-Busch InBev has acquired Breckenridge Brewery, making the 25-year-old Littleton-based beer maker the first Colorado craft brewery the international giant has bought during a year-long spree of gobbling up local breweries to create its craft-style division.
Financial terms of the sale were not announced, but the Belgian-headquartered AB-InBev said it will operate Breckenridge Brewery's new $36 million production brewery in Littleton and its original brewpub in the town of Breckenridge. Breckenridge-Wynkoop — a joint venture between the brewery and the Denver-based Wynkoop Brewing that was signed in 2011— will keep seven other brewery and restaurant properties, including Breckenridge Colorado Craft pub and Amato's in Denver, Wynkoop Brewing and Phantom Canyon Brewing Co. in Colorado Springs.

Breckenridge becomes the seventh former craft brewery — but sixth in just the past 12 months — to join The High End, AB-InBev's unit of craft and import brands. The Boulder-based Brewers Association defines a craft brewery as one that makes less than 6 million barrels of beer annually and is owned by no more than 25 percent by non-craft-brewing interests.

Breckenridge president Todd Usry said he does not expect major changes to his lineup of beers, which include brews like Avalanche Ale, Vanilla Porter and 471 Small Batch IPA. Usry, who has been with the brewery since its inception, will stay on with the new ownership.

"We're excited about the partnership and have been encouraged to continue on our path and become more innovative moving forward," he said. "I'm a believer in what The High End is focused on accomplishing, and we are flattered that our team was chosen to help guide that journey. We're looking forward to utilizing resources like decades of research and brewing expertise as we continue to create new beers."

Meh, I'm over it. I don't care about the AbInbev acquisitions. Good beer is good beer, and if you don't wan to support AbInbev, there are more than 4,000 breweries in the US that aren't Bud.

If you like the beer this is good news. the brewery basically just got an infusion of money for the owners/brewers to truly fulfill the beer menu they want with the best equipment available. Its a win for the consumer, and a win for the small brewer, and hopefully a win for Bud.

All these acquisitions going on to buy up small craft beers isn't bad. Only thing that will really change is the availability of them (wider distibution), and the prices might go down.

Neither bad.

The beers themselves will all remain the same: Breckenridge, Elysian, 10 Barrel, Ballast Point, Uinta, Southern Tier, and on and on.

doubt they change anything. this will just allow breck brewing to get more exposure and have more money to make more and better beers

It was harder to find good beer in CO than anywhere I've ever been. So much good beer, but a ridiculous amount of mediocre over hyped beer.

Also I don't care about acquisitions, and my post is useless like usual.

I work in the industry at a brewery who gets offers regularly.

And AB will come in, the sell out brewer promises nothing will change, too late they sold it, their opinion doesn't matter. AB sees ways to cut costs, AB makes those cuts, then makes more cuts. Fires top workers, brings in own hourly bullshit workers. Still markets it as "Craft" beer and at that price point even though recipes and processes as a whole may have completely changed. You lose a local company, local culture, meaningness. Its all absorbed into some mega corporation that doesnt give a shit about you or what you think.

It's a good thing for the consumer when AB comes in and cuts the fat from operations. Pricing and availability are better, as well as product line is increased... All without any negative impact to quality from what I've seen.

I'd rather them make money selling good beer, than their damn bud and bud light any day regardless.

It's awesome that we live in a time where even some of the most bumfuck towns have at least one decent beer.

Take tensleep wyoming for example. Town that i gurantee half of you have never heard of but there os a brewery there that has some pretty damn good beer.

Never heard of it. Wyoming is chill though. The Zonker Stout from Snake River brewing is phenomenal imo.

My friends ex stepdad is actually the brewmaster at voyageur brewing which is in Grand Marais, MN. Haven't tried anything from them yet though but he said that they've been getting a great response from people that try it and the different pubs that carry it. A few friends that tried it also said they really liked it so if you're ever in the area I suggest you try that.

I did 50k+ miles driving this year, so I'm sure if I'm around next summer I'll check off a few more states left on my list, and hopefully find some great berrrrs along the way
