Foxxy-BangVail sucks in my opinion and I agree with you OP for the most part, but you made the mistake of purchasing the Epic Pass and you have to deal with the repercussions.
Mountain Safety are a bunch of goonba's but again you got to deal with that shit cuz again you decided to buy the epic pass.
Here is my input on VAIL being on their knees for the jerrys flying in from Dallas and Tallahassee, they are taking the CORE skier out of their mountains because the core skier doesn't bring in revenue for them. Is the core skier going to buy a $30 meal from the cafeteria? HELL NO! Is the core skier going to complain about a dude ripping down a groomer and hitting trannies at mach 10? HELL NO, but the frickin gaper from Bama will definitely rat you out cuz he got "snaked" and it ruined his experience. So yeah I don't think Vail is a healthy corporation for the core skier, but honestly if it wasn't for them then we might not have some mountains to ski on, they keep the mountains alive for us and money in the sport. But I still say fuck em
Do you guys realize that if a lot of these mountains catered to the core skiers, sold cheap food, etc they would go out of business? I'm not saying everywhere so I don't need a "this place makes X amount blah blah"
Even the smallest hills live off the randoms. The holiday breaks where people go on trips are what keep a lot of places from closing the doors.
Basically the gapers from wherever, are really the ones keeping the ski industry alive.
If it was just pass holders, many mountains would fold pretty quick. Vail didn't fuck the core skiers. I've never actually purchased an epic pass just got through working for Vail, but you get a ridiculous amount of good, actually pretty much epic terrain for around $600.
The list of places that cost around that or more for 1 mountain is huge. And most of those mountains don't really have much in terms of terrain on many of the vail resorts.
The core skier doesn't even buy the cheaper mountain food a lot of the time. It's grilling in the lot, bring a sandwhich from home or some gas station deli, pbj sandwhiches, or eating before and after you shred.
If you want to bitch about the yellow jackets, bitch about the civil court system in the US. The fact that people can and do sue for everything. Vail is a business, shockingly sometimes a business might have a crazy idea like actually trying to make some money, and retain it. I'm not saying I like the yellow jackets, but for the most time they're only posting up on certain trails that are high traffic, many time by slow signs on trails that are meant to be reasonable speed.
Sure it's fun to blast around at full speed, but people do run into other people all the time. These mountains are fucking huge, there are plenty of trails you can rip down the cords full speed without ever having a problem. Just don't be an idiot on the slower trails, and maybe keep it mellow when you pass the yellow jackets, and in the base area.
Also think about the parks. Several Vail Resorts hold some of the best if not THE best terrain parks in the country, and the whole world actually.
People act like they're out there to ruin all the fun. Look at places like breck, keystone, etc. These places are fucking park powerhouses. The best of the best ride and train in them. VRs hold some of the biggest freestyle contests that exist.
I've definitely laughed when seeing a 7 or 8 slow baffles in the base area at Vail and some of their other mountains, but it's understandable. People come screaming into the base out of control and run people down. You see it all the time places. Some of the other non VR places get mobbed, it's out of control sometimes. Sure it's fun, but some people are seriously out of control. I can understand them wanting to designate a few trails, and the base area as "don't be retarded" zones. Hell, even mountains without safety patrol ski patrol will approach people if they're skiing like morons regardless.
If VR isn't core enough for you go to one of those mountains like MRG or Magic, or all these other places that are all about the whole core vibe or whatever. You don't have to ski there.
But PLEASE can people stop bitching about how Vail ruined their lives. I don't even like everything about Vail by any means, but people have this huge desire to ignore any mountains doing similar things and single out Vail. The "Errrmahhgerrrd if it's corporate it's horrible! Down with the corporations" attitude is annoying as hell.
Go find a time machine and set up a tent at occupy wall street or something.
The epic pass is cheap as fuck for what you get, and honestly cheaper than many single mountains with far less terrain. The parks are fucking stacked. Even the worst VR put some pretty decent effort into their parks.
People just need an enemy to stick it to the man, and I guess Vail has assumed that role for life.
Inb4 350,000 more of these threads this season.
"Omg, I wouldn't have bought a cheeseburger even if it was 2 bucks but I''m going to bitch that they cost 15" or " I almost it somebody on a slow trail and got a warning FUCK VAIL!" or "Vails like a corporation and stuff mannnnn" is just annoying at this point.
Go pool your core skier money and see if you can buy some tiny ski area with your combines $73, few loafs of bread, jars of pb and j, and pallets of ramen. Let the lame, not core enough to be cool skiers shred vail, and just send it at your small, to obscure to even have a website" hill in the middle of some forest ski area.
