Tall skiers

So I know it's probably better to be short if you're a freeskier cuz youve got a lower Center of gravity and usually just look more steezy. So who's a tall skier in the ns community? I'm about 5'11 and I think it's a bit big cuz I look lanky in video but I'm not crazy tall. I know bobby and Henshaw are both like 6'2

Im 6' flat and i do not think im a tall looking person when i ski. Pretty normal.


Sometimes I wish I was like 5'8 tho.

I ski 203 cm long pow skis perfectly in moguls and tight ass trees. My Shiros are killing it even non pow days.


Being tall is the shit who would want to be little unlesss you live in a place with shit terrain and only ski park and are a gymnast in snow???

I'm 5'9'' but I'm also 245lbs so I ski slightly longer skis. I'm sure my height doesn't limit me, I like how tall I am but my weight and just sheer size (I'm pretty stocky) does make somethings difficult park wise. I really want to drop back to 200.

I'm 6'4 being tall and skiing isn't too bad
The downsides are mostly that if you flail a little it's super obvious, if you land sideways and edge catch you have a further distance to go to the ground so whiplash can be worse, and buying outerwear can be a bitch (shout outs to xxl saga pants with those long inseams tho)
I'm serious about the whiplash thing tho i swear it's worse when your tall

I'm 5'8" and pretty stocky, I've lifted weights my whole adult life. I don't ski the park, only resort steeps. I don't think being short hurts me in big mountain, I actually think it helps for quick turns, but it would hurt for handling speed and blasting through crud if I didn't have muscle mass. I think being short and skinny is a disadvantage in big mountain in terms of speed and power through variable snow and maybe dropping cliffs too, as you might not have the strength to handle it. In technical spines and steeps I don't think little guys are at much of a disadvantage though, look at Sage and Hoji. Actually, those guys tear it up at speed and off of big cliffs too, not just technical steeps, so maybe I'm wrong. I do think it helps to be strong for big mountain though. It's tough to handle the speed and cliff drops without muscle. My guess is that Sage and Hoji have really strong legs though, I think they are light because they don't have to much upper body mass and upper body mass is not very important in skiing.

6'2'', 180lbs with an athletic build. I would say that my height is a huge advantage.
-Mass carries momentum. Translation: heavier people go faster
-Range. Tall people can get up to 2 inches extra suspension when you have to compensate
-Reach. Tall people have long legs. They take less steps and save more energy

I dont have a problem with balance at all, but getting hurt is one.

Not by my observations, height and energy output have no correlation in performance. Its more based on fitness and how efficiently your body is using its glucose. I am not talking about competition. I tour to get the deepest powder available for free, but being out of shape wont get you deeeeeep long and steep pow. That is why I included it as a point.
