What is the salary of an average to above average professional skier

so ik skiing isnt all about money and thats not why i am asking this what so ever but i feel like some of my friends have a misconception that pro freeskiers are making ridiculous amounts of money similar to other sports like soccer but is that really true? I mean ik comp skiers that do well like tom, torrin, gus and whoever else probably make a good living, but what about people who focus more on edits but are very popular in the freeski community? Like lets say henrik or B-dog for example. Or even just the pro skier thats very good but no t many people know about?

Wallisch just signed with Bose, and Joss is also sponsored by Samsung. I'm guessing that huge companies like Bose and Samsung have to pay their athletes a good amount considering how big their companies are.

From what I've seen it seems to be around 20-25k for an average mid level pro, though many/most aren't even getting that much. NS seems to wayyyyy over estimate pro salaries for the most part. Keep in mind too that the majority of that money is going straight back into skiing in the form of plane tickets, gas, etc. It's not a lucrative profession.

I think the issue arises around what we consider to be pro. Sometimes it amazes me that we consider certain people pro when some park rat from pc or keystone can ski just as well. Sure they have a part in a movie, and usually it's pretty cool but there isn't enough money in skiing to pay the 'run of the mill' pros well. If you aren't THAT guy then you won't be making THAT money. And making ANY money from skiing is an accomploshment to me. I don't feel bad for pros not making that much. They get to do daily, what people spend hundreds of dollars to do a handful of times a year. And hell, skiing is the funnest thing in the world, if money is that big of an issue go and do what the rest of the world does: get a job. Then keep skiing.

Yeah. As much as people hate on tings not being core and underground or whatever, it's nice to think that some people have the chance to really get that $ with skiing these days. Obviously there are so many people ripping hard as fuck for nothing out there, but just the idea that that's out there is pretty cool.

I mean, some of the biggest names in comp skiing were from tiny hills nobody has ever heard of.

It might not be a realistic path, but it's a hell of a dream, and if you don't have dreams, you aint got shit.

Let's start demanding that companies start releasing how much they pay their athletes. Then we the consumer can make up our mind if we want to support a stingy ass company that won't pay their athletes shit. Looking at you Line skis Andy and Will TC gets on average like 100 thousand views per episode and yet Andy has to work another job to pay for traveling and shit. For the exposure LTC get's the skiers don't get paid nearly enough.

Line can't afford to pay them much more than they already do. It's a small company and paying them all a ton would be a disaster financially. Even Tom isn't getting a huge paycheck from Line and they had to do a lot of juggling just to pay him what they do. I would love to see them each making way more - they deserve it - but that isn't realistic.

Also, are contest winnings taxable in Canada? Or do Canadian Pros hope the CRA (our IRS) don't watch dew tour, Xgames, etc

Maybe "Line" can't pay them that much based on the mandated budgets they must adhere to, but let's not pretend for a second that they're some mom and pop brand still. They are owned by Jarden Corp. who last week merged with Rubbermaid in a multi-billion dollar deal.

Line still prints money given their published/reported volume of skis they sell globally, while maintaining very little overhead considering their actual full-time Line staff is about 2 marketing employees, 1 ski engineer, 1 graphic designer, etc. I think the dedicated Line staff is less than 10 people. All the other shit such as purchasing, operations, warehousing/logistics, etc. is handled by K2 Sports.

The point is if they (meaning Rubbermaid/Jarden) wanted to pay Line's athletes more, they theoretically could... they just don't want to from a business standpoint because they realize they can still get away with brainwashing you guys into thinking you're supporting this smaller ski brand when all you're doing is putting cash into the coffers of Rubbermaid execs.

Depends on the company and everyone gets taxed.
