kryptonicso ik skiing isnt all about money and thats not why i am asking this what so ever but i feel like some of my friends have a misconception that pro freeskiers are making ridiculous amounts of money similar to other sports like soccer but is that really true? I mean ik comp skiers that do well like tom, torrin, gus and whoever else probably make a good living, but what about people who focus more on edits but are very popular in the freeski community? Like lets say henrik or B-dog for example. Or even just the pro skier thats very good but no t many people know about?
PachankzSeth has to be at least 45 years old. Kinda mind boggling the length of his career and that he's still going rather strong. He's probably had a contract with k2 for at least 20 years now . Guys beyond legend.
DeebieSkeebiesDominos coupons for AMs, a bit of beer/gas/weed money and some more dominos coupons as well.

Mike.RecordsI doubt Petit is at the top. The guy crushes it and I love to watch him ski, but he just doesn't get the main stream exposure that the comp guys get. Specifically Gus.
PachankzYou mustn't have been watching the past decade of ski movies that closely . Pettit has what 4 pro model skis out on k2? His ads litter the magazines, he's pretty much filled Seths shoes as the number one big mountain skier in the world. If you absorb yourself in only park skiing comp culture than your missing half the boat my friend.
I_liketobutterThis is snowboarding so its probably a bit different.
One of my good buddy's brother is a pro/am boarder. He is not a contest rider. A few years ago he was getting paid $1000/mo from DC. At that time he had a shot or two with videograss and traveled on a few trips with them. He paid for travel on most his trips. He also was receiving massive boxes of every kind of clothes and gear you could think of. It was insane how much gear was thrown his way.
Now I would consider him pro/am. He has full parts in videograss movies and does not have to pay for most his travel and probably has a much larger paycheck.
saskskierI'm in no way, shape or form connected to the ski industry, so I don't know the ins and outs of how things work. I'm assuming a few things here
a) I don't think pro models translate to higher salaries. I feel like there are high level skiers without pro models and lower level skiers with them.
b) Again, not sure if exposure translates to higher salaries. I'm sure that's all part of a negotiated sponsorship contract. Again, there are dudes who might not get much more than some equipment who still have ads all over the place
c) Petit is an amazing skier, but I don't think you can say he's filled Seth's shoes. They are very different skiers. Petit reminds me more of T-Hall than Seth.
d) I think an argument could be made that Petit is bringing in more cash than other skiers based on who he's sponsored by (Oakley and Red Bull being the big ones) along with the kind of exposure he's bringing. The fact that Red Bull has an ongoing mini-series chronicling last season probably says more about how much they value him than a few magazine ads.

PachankzOf course pro models translate to a higher salary contract especially when you have a whole series. How many skiers besides candide and Pettit have an entire series of skis dedicated to them ? I can't think of any off the top of my head .
Of course exposure in advertising pays a higher salary. Would you shoot commercial ads for free? Again more exposure equates to bigger sales for the brand which in turn gets you paid .
Pettits filling Seths position as the go to guy for big mountain skiing. The styles are a world apart as pettits way more playful and Seths more of a charger huckster ; it's the role of being top dog I'm referring to. Who else fits the mold would you say? Not hoji, not abma, not Tudor and certainly not tanner .
saskskierPollard? Hoji? JP? All have/had multiple 'pro models' simultaneously.
I'm willing to bet the vast majority of sponsored skiers do not include a regular salary. Gear and perhaps some help for travel, but I don't think there is a ton of cash floating around for the athletes. I'm sure there are incentives based in contest results, film parts and advertising. Even then... I mean the travelling circus guys have lots of exposure, but it still seems like they live on next to nothing.
Again, not trying to take away from Petit, but I just dont agree with the Seth comparison. Seth will always be Seth in the same way that Mcconkey and JP are pretty much stand alones. Perhaps someday Petit will be up there with them, but he needs at least another solid 10 years under his belt before he joins those ranks.

KravtZESPN article about Gus said he make 500k-1M. Big range but still a decent living
eheathTake the amount you think it is and divide it by 10. Skiers don't make that much money, minus a select few, most are below the poverty line.
PachankzPollard is a legend for sure , and has multiple pro model skis , he didn't come to mind in a quick thought, however he's more of a freestyle powder skier than a big mountain slayer: just don't see him skiing the same type terrain as Pettit.
Jp ( rip) is obviously in a class of legends and that will always stand but he's no longer with us.
Hoji as I mentioned his name is a pioneer, and legend of big mountain skiing and is a downright badass but doesn't have the bag of tricks Pettit has not the exposure. My stance stays , although young you're correct, imho he's top dog at the moment in big mountain skiing and since Seth has taken a step back and slowed a bit from filming etc I personally feel Pettit is filling his shoes . Just an opinion anyway. To each his own.
ozzywrongAverage pro like say Sean Logan and Parker white would make between 25 to 40k a year including travel.
A pro like Like Chris Benchetler/sean p around 200 to 300 k..
Candide 500 k plus a year.
Tanner around 300k
Dollo would make aroind 150 to 200k maybe more
Philcasabon wiild be lukcy to make 60k (i assume)
Some one like corey vanular woyld be lucky to get 10 g a year (even though hes better than most super pros)
Someone like clayton villa would be lucky to make 15k. (Ive heard k2 is quite stingy unless you are pep, seth or sean p)
These are all assumptions based of lots of conversations with many people about the industry. Most pros barley eat.. and the only ski companies that pay well are volkl,Atomic and armada (super pro team only) from what i assume.. but what the fuck do i know haha...
ozzywrong15 skiers i think make more than 100k per year off all sponsorship deals. Combined in 2015..
1)candide
2)tanner hall
3)Henrik
4)nick goeper
5)Bobby Brown
6)Sammy Carlson
7)Sean p
8)Chris Benchetler
9) russ henshaw
10)twall
12)Gus Kenworthy
13)Jon Olsson
14)Joss Christianson
15) Jossi Wells
16) maybe jesper maybe
90% of these guys are big como skiers...
.
eheathAlso, you don't instantly make 10 times more money every year because you have a pro model, just saying.

eheathI mean, I can say it again if you want me to, but your educated guesses aren't right. Sure, they might make more money off of winnings, filming etc but maybe 7 or 8 people on that list have a 'salary' of over 100k. Again, a salary meaning the money they get paid year from a sponsor.
Im not sure where you think theyre all getting money from, but the biggest sponsor of the biggest skiesr on that list dont pay more than 30-40k (some exceptions, just in general) and then as the sponsor gets smaller the money drops significantly and some of sponsors these big skiers have don't pay them either.
Yes some guys make alot of money from maybe red bull or monster or the euro guys (like candide) but normal sponsors that arent big fucking engery drink companies arent paying their athletes THAT much.
I have no 'real' numbers and even if I did, I wouldnt post them, but most skiers don't make a shit ton of money, some skiers that do make a shit ton of money are on that list, but most of them dont. Just because someone is sponsored by red bull doesn't mean they're getting paid the same as the highest paid red bull athlete, etc, get what im saying? Thats all i got for you

Titus69Id guess the skier of the pro model gets some % of each sale on each model sold.
auskiI think the non skiing-based sponsors would be where real money is made. Think Target, Toyota (eg Dumont when he was competing), Betsafe (one of Jon's many non skiing based ones), Audi (Candide), etc
Add to that a select few that Monster and Red Bull look after because of the content they deliver - Bobby, Gus, Jesper (easier for Euros)
