If you could permanently remove one thing from Earth, what would it be?

Yeah, "go to college right away or you're fucked". I've heard that way too much. My mom ski-bummed in Steamboat for two years after highschool... But my parents laughed in my face when I mentioned taking a year off.
Imagine if plastics had initially all been from plants. Cars stuck to steam until fully electric. No oil spills. No oil money. No styrofoam. No giant wasteland in the ocean. Less pollution. More ecological advancement.
Bioplastics are just starting to gain momentum. Adding in Biodegradable plastics, commercial composting.... oh how lovely the world would be without petro.
I'm confused where you are getting the energy to make steam powered cars. I am also confused where you are getting the materials to make the billions of cars on the road? We all need petro. We are all completely dependent on it. Don't kid yourself. If you don't want it stop using computers, stop skiing, and stop buying shit.

If petro hadn't existed, bioplastics would have likely been invented much sooner and gone into use. They would likely be further ahead than we are with them now.
And steam engines.... you know, they used a lot more things than just kerosine to power them.
A lot of the current materials that are plastics from petro could be replaced by current plastics.
Just like we could be using bamboo and hemp for furniture, paper, clothing....
Just like we shouldn't be buying fast fashion from cheep materials.
.... that being said, I don't own a car. I bring my own bags to stores. I carry a canteen for my water. I don't buy products with corn by products. I try to keep my clothing as natural as possible. I have started donating to save rainforests through the world land trust. I think the world would be a better place if we hadn't put so much value into a very finite resource.

I mean petroleum is pretty awesome too. Airplanes, moon landings, basically all satellites, and drag racing would never be possible with electric power and wont be for the forseeable future

Except it's very possible those things would have still been created because the science to do other things would have advanced much faster. We would have been looking into other fuels a hundred years ago. We would have it dialed in.

Most, if not all, religions, whether it be a religion that emphasizes a belief within a creator-god (judeo-christian) or interdependent/individual understanding of existentialism (Buddhism), emphasize at their core compassion and hope and unify people. But men throughout history have exploited the power that religion has on people (influence of faith, hope, unity, etc. that religion has on people) for socio-economic benefit
I don't really know how to put it, but the crux of religion is so rich and focused on benefiting humans and their environment that to say to remove religion from the world is fifth grade understanding of the world - a hasty generalization fallacy.
You can say religion limits, divides, and kills us, but it is the men in power who have control this. A world without religion will still have people and people will limit, divid and kill each other.

The corruptness of religion has come to the point where the bad outweighs the good. Hope, unity and peace can be achieved with out religion.

It's interesting to think about how big of an impact something like this would have. Like completely removing something we think of as bad could totally upset some sort of balance and give way to even more bad things

The mind of the average human is not capable of understanding memes, especially when we reach the dank meme realm. If I were the one to first explore memes, I would have kept my findings secret. The world isn't ready for memes. We should have waited at least another millennium before bringing memes into the human world.
