Do you ever just not wanna ski?

Ok weird thread because I love skiing but when all 3 of your friends are mogul team kids and the other snowboard it sucks going to the park you ski on another mountain where none of your friends are to get roasted all day and have the cocky park kids tell you you suck dick and they are better than you and you feel like you cant learn because no matter what you do they hate and you're just kinda like ok

None of my friends ski at all and people I know think im some sort of degenerate because they don't understand why I put so much of my time into it, but I like more BC stuff so the cocky park kids ain't really a factor for me

Just find people you're comfortable shredding with and don't take what the park kids are saying seriously, once you do that you will start enjoying it more

I've skied New England for the past decade inside out. Literally have been everywhere many times over and it's maxed out for me. It all feels like a big bunny hill at this point and is not really ever challenging or exciting. I'm more of an all mountain, tree skier . So basically at this point I have to return to the park and get better there and or start skiing backcountry to re ignite my passion as its weining quickly.

I can totally relate to the cocky park kids thing.

I just send it on natural hits/cat tracks, drop small cliffs, and ski trees as much as I can...but I fucking SUCK at park. kids just scared me away when I was younger and I hate it now.

It's pretty damn embarrassing when people ask "wanna take a few laps in the park", and I know I can't do shit. I've never talked to anybody on the lift that said " let's go tear up those glades". I can't wait to experience real big mountain skiing.

I mean sometimes I get pissed when I can't do shit on a feature or if there are a lot of people better than me...but skiing is the best thing in my life and everyday I'm skiing is a privilege

Sorry to hear people are being mean to you, but don't let them ruin your fun. Be the light... Make friends with people that are in the same shoes as you. I'm sure other people are trying to progress. Just be a friend to everyone and kill them with kindness.

Just tell them you're a big mountain skier, and you decided to learn park to expand your skills since you had progressed all you can at big mountain and free heeling. Guaranteed none of them can Tele so they'll have mad respect for you. It's the park rats that are secretly insecure they can't ski powder.

Nah even in the pouring rain I still want to ski.


My problem is that I can't ski well at 40-60% effort so I quit too early in the day often when I want to ski more because Im too tired to ski well. If Im not totally focusing and crushing it and ripping and going fast I just ski awfully and Im big and go too fast and get out of control when I don't want to and just want to go slow and its scary and Im going to fuck myself up and I just have to stop and call it a day somewhat early.

Sounds to me like your mountain is full of some serious ass clowns!

Sometimes you have to just make your own stoke! Go off and hit the shit you wanna do, and don't get bummed out by a some turds trying to justify their own ego. Its tough to try your best and push it when you have people just waiting for you to fail, but try and make that your motivation!

Some of my best days skiing have been days out by myself, skiing what I want to ski, and not having people examining/judging everything you do!

If all else fails just buy Full Tilts and head out to find Chads Gap. Then you can show all them up with some sick footy!

Sucks that people in your park are douchers. There are always those kids, some places more than others. Talk to some of the people on the drops, maybe hike a feature with some people. Good way to meet people in the park and make friends, give you people to shred with. Also if you're friens with a boarder and he hits the park, lap with him. There was a few year period where the crew I rode with had 10+ skiers at times and only one other boarder. Sometimes I was the only. Sure were didn't do the same tricks, but we had a great time.

Also to the thread title, yes. I honestly enjoy building more than riding a lot of times, that said I still need to get out a decent amount. I think it's because I'm on snow all the time. On my days off, if I have any, I rarely go to the mountain. I used to go everyday, especially on days off. I think the fact that I ride at least a little bit every day I work, and I work pretty much everyday, I'm over it sometimes.

It's still my jam, my life ect, but Im not dying to get out. Like I could have gone for the last month or so at killington, and now other places are open, but I haven't even gone out since last may.

Once i quit skiing park as much and pulled up my pants and down sized my jacket and just started sending it off cliffs. I don't ever get heckled. Or any of that bull shit. Ski pow and drink beer.

Honestly I've never had a "I don't want to go skiing" moment. But I do have the times where I'll skip it because of terrible weather (rain) and postpone for a week or so. Also sometimes skiing the same stuff over and over again for a few days in a row gets boring. Granted if the snow conditions change or I learn something new the stoke is revitalized

dude, honestly just make friends in the park. nobody from my school rides park so i just try to be friendly and i can always find people to ride with. met some of my good friends by just asking if i could ride with them. not everyone will be cocky

I do this I just had the shittiest day yesterday I broke my arm on friday and got like 2 hours of sleep and didnt have anything to eat that day until 2 when i had a core power and it was sorta raining and my arm hurt and got roasted by legit everyone so some days im not into it but its rare i still usually go and try to perk up once im on snow

Same boat as you my man. Except my passion is very strong for the sport. Plan is at this point to make the move to the west somewhere before next winter. East coast is pretty shitty imo. Besides the top colleges in the US...over priced, crowded, bad skiing, weather sucks for the most part.

Only plus is the cities aka NYC, Boston, etc being so close / easy to get around to

Damn I felt this way for so long. I feel your pain.

However, what really grinds my gears is that everyone is all "racers are cocky assholes" on this site. But every time I step into the park, every one is just super cocky and prestigious over what tricks they can do.

Are ya'll really that much different?

Yeah its just the mountain is so small and the town I know most kids and they are all kids sponsered by daddy's wallet or fucking butthurt about something.

Same same. My friends arent into skiing as much as I am unfortunately, so usually its me myself and I on the mountain. Like you said cool people can be met everywhere. The 2 hour ride up alone is frankly depressing at times though haha

Because at Okemo, where I skiied when I was a kid, the skiiers were guys like my dad. The skiier kids I'd see in the lodge just looked like fags. The snowboarders all looked cool and even on hill looked like they were having more fun than everyone else.

I was quite impressionable back in 2006 and had my dad showed me Look It Up by 4bi9 I probably would have wanted to be a freeskiier. Luckily he didn't.
