RANT: Faction Skis I'm pissed

Ok so I sent them a email saying how I was disappointed in their ski durability and sent pictures of the base damage and just basically ranted to them.
That was 3 days ago no response, they are probably busy or something...

But now I'm going to rant to NS because I need comfort (ok I'm a pussy stfu)

So basically, I have skied on these skis for a total of 14 days...

10 days on a turf setup with a pvc rail (no damage other than top sheet chips)
waxed twice one in between the 10 and the other on the last day of use

Then it snowed and I took them to a hill and used my pvc pipes that lasted 3 days (no damage) Waxed after the three days

Then after the snow melted a mountain 40 minutes away opened up and I went from 3-10pm
I had a blast even though they had a few runs open (no features)

I waited a couple of days and then I went to go wax them and noticed these...



This was a huge slit down the base of my ski and I could have ripped that whole piece of the base out if I wanted to.. It went straight down as far as it could...

How could this happen from just skiing groomers? Maybe a little grass spots...

idk I'm probably over reacting, but I'm just pissed this happened on the first day of the hill

I ptexed it and waxed I guess I'm just scared because if that was one day whats going to happen when I ski 100?

I don't want anything from Faction and Ik warranty is void from the pvc that I hit previously. I just want to let them know I'm angry and thoughts from you if anyone read this hahah


IK my bases are really dry, they aren't any more tho..

Am I the only one thinking he only skied these a total of 14 days and 10 of them were on PVC/turf and 4 were early season conditions...in the midwest?

Seems like when you break out the rock skis. Not trying to be harsh. It sucks, but it seems like the only thing you didn't try to do them was set them on fire.

Yea in the midwest and I understand that was bad for my skis, but I couldn't wait any longer... And the day I go to the mountain is the day they get fucked up...

Totally disagree, I had issues with my skis last season and Faction were nothing but brilliant in there response and dealing of the matter.

Jesus kid you probably just hit some hidden rocks and didn't notice it, how the hell is that even remotely factions fault? No skis will hold up to hitting rocks, and it dosent matter if you have 1 or 100 days on the skis when you hit a rock, the damage will still be the same.

dam i could throw them into a washing machine, then out of a building, then into a car crusher in a junk yard, then light them on fire and come out with the same result. You must have hit a rock going pretty fast right on the sweet spot. Sucks to hear, id be mad too. Early season is always an older ski for me

OP I got an idea for you. Shut the hell up and quit being a little squid.

You skied double digit days slamming your skis into rails not even on snow like they were designed to do. It sucks they broke...but many people screw their skis on rocks.

Think about it. You took a ski, slammed it into rails for 14 days and expect them to stay in great shape. Thats the downfall of being a park rat. Shit like this happens.

I know you don't want to hear this but its pretty much your fault.

your bases look incredibly dry in that picture, and skiing turf will dry your bases out. Dry bases are fragile, and after 14 days on turf your bases will be super dry. You probably just skied over a rock or hit any sharp edge and because your base was dry and brittle it split.

Ptex it up and make sure to wax your skis more, shouldn't happen again.

Ok... I am not saying at all faction skis are bad... I love the skis, I was just pissed that the base damage happened withing 14 days... And it was not at all from the rails.... I waxed after the rails sessions and there was no damage...

I was just sad to see that it happened when I'm on the hill, I ski in the mid west we don't have rocks laying around on the runs we just have grass, snow, and sticks...


I'm literally pissed off that this happened with one day at the hill, I feel like you guys would be pretty pissed off too...

I have realized this thread was a mistake and badly worded, I am sorry.

But I guess I am just sad my skis got ruined

I can't help it that I can only afford a pair of skis... I'm a kid and I had to work at an apple orchard to get them

I have other ones but they have no brakes right now

I'll end it on this

Shits a bummer. Its easy to get stoked and get out on the new boards a bit early. not all is lost, I bet you could find a shop to fix those guys up or even find a tutorial (either here or elsewhere on the interwebz) showing you how to fix them yourself. feel free to PM me if you can't find a shop and I can give you a few tips for fixing them

you used brand new skis on a summer set up?? that's insane

skis like snow; not turf, dirt, rocks, metal, plastic, or anything else. if you expose them to anything but snow you will probably reduce their lifespan. you should have been on some beater skis until January.

this, also riding a summer setup without brakes is not an issue at all, it's not like your skis are gonna take off on you

They arent ruined at all...take em to a good shop and they will base weld the grand canyon of a gouge. With is being close to the edge, chances are the ptex will keep falling out, esp if it was a home job and your ptex skills arent on point. They will base weld, stonegrind them and set you up with a solid wax and youll be good to go.

Were you riding at Wilmot? I grew up skiing there. Head up to milwaukee and check out Les Moise, best shop arounds hands down and they will get you all setup!

if your looking for anything from a company even a discount on another pair of skis dont rant to them like you did. a company will not want to help someone who came in guns blazing. Imagine your at work and a customer comes in screaming about something that they didnt like or went wrong, and you could see it was their fault (i say this because it was probably a rock that did and probably your fault just sayin) upon seeing this super angry screaming customer would you be inclined to help them? or would you rather help someone who was calm and rational?

I spent five years working on building my own motorsport parts company when I left university, I can tell you now that its the attitude of people like you who cost companies who have done nothing wrong a lot of business.

In 99% of cases over five years the cause of product failure was end user stupidity. They always want to blame the product for their own stupidity and a failure to accept that they might be the reason it failed.

If you have a problem with something, think to yourself; was it perhaps that rock I skied over? Was it down to hitting rails in my back yard.

If you suspect a part of having an issue or defect you will find most companies actually want to know and help. Be patient most companies in the ski world are still pretty small, give them a week or so to respond, your 1st port of call should always be the the shop you got them from, most shops have pretty decent relationships and can get hold of brand reps pretty fast.

Don't be a little bitch and cry on the internet, if a company ignores you and you do have a genuine issue (such as edge blows out on 1st turn etc) then by all means take to the net and let people know.

This thread is the complete opposite of my interactions with Faction. I beat the fuck out of my candide 3.0's and all I have to show for it is a minor compressed edge and 1 core shot. I even inquired about warranteeing the compressed edge for shits and giggles and Faction responded to my email within 24 hours offering me 60% off skis from their website. I did not take them up on their offer because the ski still shralps fine and Im a broke piece of shit. But I was impressed with the response time and generosity. i would be mad if i lived in the midwest too.

All I have ever heard from people is that Faction is an amazing company to deal with..

and they really are..

I'm sorry for being a bitch about getting one scratch on my base, I was just really angry because I'm a 17 yr old and I don't have a lot of money so those skis were expensive to me and I need them to last 2 seasons

it's a rail ski... They all break from every company. The next pair you get do some research to find out which models from what companies might use a higher density base material.

Chalk it up to a learning experience. With a base weld for the gouge and a stone grind those skis would likely be just fine.

I hit a rock first day on brand new pow setup with similar results as you. Had a base weld by a competent shop and it is unnoticeable.

OP would freak TF out if he skied Big Sky aka Big Scratch. I swear, checking base at the end of the day I would have a new core shot or scratches similar to the ones provided. You just have to get jiggy with that p-tex/ base weld.

ive put skis through WAY worse than that for YEARS and they stayed in way better condition than that. my ARVs hit hundreds of rails, took a thousand crashes, were skied into parking lots all the time, hit ~500 rocks, and they were still in shockingly good shape

im not saying faction is at fault, and it looks like theyve offered to help him out which is cool

im just saying i think OP has the right to be a LITTLE disappointed. unless he really nailed a rock or something and didn't tell us

Guys this thread is pretty old. I fixed it with ptex a while ago and Yea the ptex wore off and the scratch is there but I'm going to to fix it again. I definitely over reacted when this first happened and made this thread ahah but I'm a kid with no job so I spent my money on this which felt like a lot (275) Next time I'll buy a more durable ski that is 500 because you get what you pay for I guess.


Still am pretty bumbed that this happened towards the end of my season


I'm not going to throw a tantrum but I will if these things fall apart in CO when I am there
Sorry but I'm just not a faction fan. Yea their customer service is great and I am sure the candide models are well built but their cheaper models arnt worth it (from my expirence with this ski)
