JohnJonszCongrats on getting in to Midd! I was class of '11. Skied about 40-60 days/year while there, but many of those were half days. I'll hop back on later to answer any questions you may have
JohnJonszGood luck finding freeskiers. But you'll at least find some riders to carpool. Come April when the regular decision kids get accepted, make a post about skiing in a facebook Midd '19 group that will inevitably be created by another overly excited incoming freshman.
Get a sugarbush/MRG pass by signing up 10 other people. Not sure if this deal still exists so maybe email marketing. One year I only got 5 peeps so I split the cost of a pass with a senior who also had 4 people on his list.
The midd ski bowl is fun when theres a pow day and you only have 2 hours after or before class. Surprisingly fun for a small hill. Allen is a great run. The trees of RTN and Ross and Proctor can all fill in nicely. The liftline under the backside triple has a techy double drop waterfall, but its a permanent closure so you may have to hitchhike back to the base if pass pulled. You can build your own mini park on the skiers rightmost run off Sheehan double. Also right under the sheehan double is a fun 3 hit track-- small flat to down drop gets you speed into a large hip jump to easy build kicker with a decent landing. Oh the memories.
Stowe has the best sidecountry in the east with Mt Mansfield and everything into smugglers notch. Could write a whole post about this but someone prob already has. I love how the quad opens at 7:30 so you get a few laps before the crowds and 9am gondi opener. Tough to convince midd friends to go there so look to find burlington friends and local ns'ers. Maybe don't get this pass your first year.
Killington imo is overcrowded with new yorkers as it is the southmost best mtn in VT. Fun for a day and longest lift season usually with great spring skiing into April.
If there's a big dump in the forecast, skip class cuz Jay peak has the best lift accessed pow skiing in the east and usually gets the most snowfall too. That freezer quad gets mighty cold tho. Praise the jay cloud and go for a pow weekend if you can.
