whats better tho, a stiff ski or a soft ski cause i think as skis break in they become softer flexing so does that mean they're less responsive or what?

He LITERALLY just said that it's a personal preference. Stiffer skis are usually better for speed and technicality, and soft skis are usually better for buttering and playing around. This is not a rule, but a general guideline. Theres a ton of soft skis that perform extremely well, and theres many stiff skis that are tons of fun.

my on3p vices are pretty stiff, i wish they were a bit flexier. ive been trying to flex them all over the mountain on random stuff and they seem to have softened up a little bit

Skis are manufactured with a specific flex profile. The stiffness is engineered into the design of the ski. Over time, the ski will loose its flex and shape.... this is called "getting punched out" , rather than "Broken in"

You are better off to buy a ski with the desired flex profile that to forcibly punch out the profile of a ski you think is too stiff. If you try and break in / punch out a ski, you are going to get a different flex profile on each ski. I had a pair of ARV's, one was essentially rockered at the tip, while the other retained more of the original shape by the end of the season.

Years ago, a rep was explaining to me that skis actually have a relatively short life span. I think he said something like 25 full days, and then the ski likely wont retain the same profile, as the materials break down from use.

Trying to break in skis will just make them delam more quickly. If you want to increase the life of them, ski them normally and buy a ski that fits your flex preference. I'd like to also add that stiffer skis tend to have a longer lifespan. The way a ski flexes, all of the layers are sliding against each other, loosening the epoxy that holds your ski together. If you're not a huge dude sending gnarly stuff, then that shouldn't be a problem. My suggestion is to not buy a crazy stiff ski and try to flex the crap out of it rather than getting a ski that would match your height, weight and skiing style.

First of all in answer to the original thread.....What?. If your looking for a certain feel try some of the custom brands, ski logic, romp, Wagner etc. They will make them feel how you want it. But in terms of breaking in a ski. It's not a pair of boots

Second don't buy your boots based on a brand someone tells you is good. Buy the ones that fit you. Even if they happen to be pink. Your feet will thank you

Just do tips stands and pushups on your skis. You'll break them in no time.

I'd also recommend putting your head in a microwave.

yea. a lot of people dont realize that you need to activate the rocker. to do this, hold the tip of the ski in one hand and flex the middle of the ski with your foot until the ski is flexed so the middle of the ski is pushed a foot or so past the tip and tail. You may hear some fiberglass cracking but thats normal.

Full tilts didn't work for me. They don't work for everyone. I have a pair of red Seth MO full tilts 28.5 if you want them. Skied on a dozen miserable days, After wearing them around my house all summer. There yours for $250. Why did I buy them? I got talked into them by a Co worker hooked on full tilt. While I will say the old school design is easy to get on and off. So go buy full tilts for this guy. Then buy what the boot fitter looking at your foot suggest
