Yo so i got into montana state and got some scholarships. The school makes you use their dorms if you get a scholarship from them which is chill. Basically Im making this thread to see if anyone else is going, interested in rooming together if i get a double, and want some housing suggestions.
They got a new Freshman Dorm it looks like. Does anyone know what thats gonna be like?
From one of the brochures I got it appears the cheapest will be a non specified dorm double room, non specified dorm single room, or the langford double room.
I want to be comfy as possible and cheap as possible.

I'm pretty sure all MSU freshman and sophomores are required to live in the dorms if they are full time and have less than 30 credit hours or whatever--just an FYI that it isn't just a scholarship thing.

Don't live in Langford. New freshman dorm will be super fucking tite. Live in Roskie and smoke weed every day.

If I remember correctly, roskie is closest to the dining hall... which...you know...is pretty clutch when its -10 outside. It was also the most popular.

I didn't actually ever live in the dorms, though. Since I was a transfer student, I was newly 21 when I enrolled at WSU...so I toured the 21+ dorms, but decided to get an apartment off campus.

Also any info on Meal Plans would be good. Thinking about getting the 5 day pass and eating some ramen/sandwiches on the weekends.

no the hedges have actual walkways to miller.

And langford is the best if you can get the right floor without a bunch of weird people that keep their door shut.

also get a seven day, its absolutely worth it.

if you're actually looking to save money you can get a lease over the summer and then you can get the dorm requirement waived. There is nothing comfy about living in a dorm.

north hedges is the closest to the dining hall, that ish is connected yo!

One of the only exemptions is if you were in the military.

Live in the dorms dude, its an experience everyone has and everyone should have. Its the only time in your life you can do it really, just do it. Go for the new dorms, the rest of the dorms at MSU are so old and shitty haha. Same as someone else said, get the full meal plan, definitely worth it.

Roskie is really fucking great even for how small the rooms are, but rumor is they are tearing it down soon. New freshman dorm looks really nice, but it won't be able to compare to the social atmosphere that Roskie's layout facilitates. On weekdays it smells like dope, on weekends it smells like barf. It's kind of a sausage fest, but there are still plenty of opportunities to chase tail, and at least it is not langford. People actually form very strong family-like bonds here. Most of the skiers are in Roskie or South Hedges. It's small, it's kinda ratty, and it kinda smells sometimes, but everyone loves it.

Whatever you do, don't go to langford
South is like roskie but not as social, north is like a cleaner version of south.

Don't get the 5 day mealplan, weekends of ramen sucks and you will probably actually spend more money that way.

Im living in North Hedges right now and its awesome. You meet a ton of other people that shred in the dorms. The new dorms are being built right now and they look really nice so it'd be cool to try and get in there. Montana state is the greatest school ever.

Idk man there is a shit ton of skiers in North Too. I think there will be skiers no matter where you are here.

Yeah I've thought about big sky but Bridger makes more sense for me. Cheaper, closer, I've never skied park before really, and I have a beacon. I think id like Bridger more.

Bridger is the shit, you can ski all over that mountain and never get bored, I love that place.

yeah Bridger is the shit, and one of the only remaining non-profit, community owned ski areas.

Ayyy I'm also going to be headed to MSU next year, I'll probly be staying in the new dorms but it's still up in the air. Though I'm still a little undecided about whether to get a season pass at bridger or big sky. I hear good things about both, I'm not much of a park skier and I don't know if the extra 500 bucks is worth it for big sky so maybe i'll just kick it at Bridge, we'll see.

This. Everybody hates on res life after freshman year but it was honestly the shit. All the friends I made were from the dorms and I had some crazy times in Roskie. Also get a 7 day plan. There will be Friday and sat nights where you are stoned/drunk/studying/all three where you will want to go get unlimited cafeteria food.

I was in Roskie as a freshman and had a blast - cool people seem to gravitate there, and theres always new people and friends around to do stuff and party with. Roskie also has a room for ski waxing, check-in gun storage, a kitchen, and it seems like generally chiller RA's than other dorms do. That being said, not having a connected dining hall sucks when its -25*F outside, and the actual building is kind of shitty, though the elevators are faster than South Hedges'. Roskie and N/S Hedges are by far the most (and arguably the only) really social dorms, but are not close to as nice as some of the others. The new building thats in-process by Roskie looks like it could be really nice, and being that it's close to Roskie and N/S Hedges, I bet it will be pretty social too, and if not you could just go hang at one of the other dorms. Also, for what it's worth, I have a few buddies that were in Wangford and hated it because of the atmosphere, even though it was super nice. I also know some people that went with the freshman apartments, and felt they were super cramped. If I were you, I would try to get a double room in the new building if possible, then probably Roskie, then North or South Hedges.

Freshman apts were actually super sick. I was freshman the first year the offered them. It's actually closer to the north side of campus than Roskie, it's old family/grad housing on Garfield and 15th. Spent many weekends when we couldn't find a party just chilling drinking in the apt with a lot more space than in a dorm room and able to make more noise.

yeah things are definitely way more relaxed over there. not that roskie isn't for some things, but you can actually get dicked with bullshit noise write ups, it's honestly just a waste most of the time.

I had a killer time in the dorms, lived in South and thought it was a blast. Definitely get the 7 day meal plan, Miller is pretty much the freshman social mecca for MSU and you'll want to go all the time. Honestly any of the dorms around Miller is where you'll want to be. You also don't have to live in the dorms after Freshman year Idk who got that idea.

This shit right here, its the goddamn truth. Naturally i will tell everyone here to ski big sky over bridger, but both mtns are neat. Even if you dont ski park, big sky is incredible. Bridger is closer but get way more crowded and any snow that you dont have to hike to gets beat to fuck by 10am. Both places have pros and cons but dont let the price tag of big sky intimidate you, its so worth the money. This will be my 6th winter riding here and i still havent skied everything
