Should i do this or nah?

so theres this mountain behind my house called old tom, and i really want to ski it. a couple people have actually skied it over the past few years but its just so big. i would do it late season in the warmer slushier temperatures when the avalanche danger is low and not likely. i have a telescope, spotting scope, and other binoculars to check certain routes, and there have been a few slides. the climbing route i would take wouldnt be very steep/hard, its just super long both ways. honestly i just want to climb the darn thing and ski down. i would have 1 or 2 people come with me.

That looks like it would take less then 2 hrs to hike that ridge line. Just skin up and do it

Do you have the requisite backcountry knowledge and equipment? Make sure the answer is yes before you go for it.

You should try to partner up with people who have already done it, if possible.

Do you not have access to snowmobiles? Seems like a no-brainer to me. 4 up on 2 sleds, 2 ski down, other 2 sled down to pick up and switch up. The fuck would you want to hike that?!?!

Go for it. If you cant get someone who's already done it to go with you, try to at least consult someone who's done it while planning your trip.
Once you and your m8s are 100% sure of yourselves, do it.

yea, my guess was 3-4 hours as i sold my skins and touring setup.

just so ya knows mother nature doesn't care if your an expert or a noob w/ what he thinks are the basics
yes the spring when the snowpack goes isothermal would prob be best
and spending time during the season learning self rescue skills and trying to refine your basic knowledge of bc travel woud be a great idea.
hellofa lot more involved than avaunche avoidance or sitting in a cass for a few hours

7 years later. Finally did it. my skiing and fitness are much better than they were 7 years ago, hahaha. I went solo and was able to boot pack the entire way, as the west side had lots of exposure everything was mostly dry over there. Hell of a time. been looking at that mountain for years and finally checked the box. took 7-8 hours as expected. top was icy af but middle and lower sections we were able to open the throttle up pretty good. Got to the bottom and walked through some farmers fields and met my homie for pickup in the car.

Reviving this old thread just for fun, lol. pics are probably out of order but oh well.
